Hosts sought for Japanese visitor
Cultural exchange visitor Kazuko Yamasaki of Japan is looking for other
residential opportunities in the area.
Here as part of the Japan Outreach Initiative through the public school
system, Yamasaki has been staying with Carolyn and Logan Young of South
Boston for six months. The program calls for her to visit other homes,
however, to share her culture.
“The best way to learn about a foreign culture, short of living abroad,
is to live with a person from that country. Those who have had the good
fortune to host a foreign national in their home know this to be an
interesting and enriching experience,” says Japan Outreach Initiative
literature.
So far, Yamasaki — who is fluent in English — has worked with
school children and held public sessions on the food and traditions of
Japan.
She has a husband and two adult children in Japan.
Families, couples or single women wanting more information on being
short-term hosts may contact Walter Kraft at 454-6610.
