38 year old South Boston woman has been charged with two counts of
uttering and two counts of forgery after Halifax Police Officer Mike
Womack arrested her for stealing a checkbook from a South Boston woman.
Charged was Mamie Lavon Jackson of Hamilton Boulevard, South Boston.
According to Womack, Paula Flood of Sycamore Road, South Boston
reported to the Halifax Police Department on July 20 that her checkbook
had been stolen while she was visiting the Halifax Post Office sometime
on July 16, 2007. Several checks were written on the account, one for
$500 and another for $100.80. After checking with the bank where the
checks were written, Jackson and a friend, Delton Dorty, Jr., 24, of
Durham, NC were arrested. Dorty was charged with one count of uttering
and both subjects were released on their own recognizance.
