State Police reported a relatively quiet holiday week-end, but on
Friday two citations were given for minor offenses. George Daniel
Scott, 79, of Alphonse Dariy Road, South Boston was charged with
failure to yield the right-of-way when the 2000 Buick he was operating
struck the side of the vehicle driven by Larry Daniel Hicks, 56, of
Boones Mill on US Route 58, some 200 feet west of US 360. Damages to
each of the vehicles was estimated at $3,000 by investigating Virginia
State Trooper T. C. Comer.
In another Friday accident, the 1999 Pontiac driven by Shana Lynn
Francis of Union Grove Road, South Boston ran off the right side of
State Route 682, about two miles west of State Route 659, striking two
trees. The driver was not injured, but Trooper Comer estimated damages
to the car at some $7,000. Francis was charged with having imperfect
equipment.
From South Boston Police reports, 22 year old Jessica Dabbs of Clover,
the driver of a Chevrolet Cavalier, was charged with failure to yield
the right-of-way when her car struck a parked vehicle belonging to a
resident of the 1200 block of Ash Avenue in South Boston and also the
on-coming 1989 Nissan operated by Daniel Cosby of South Boston.
Investigating South Boston Cpl. DeGeorgis estimated damages to the
Dabbs car at some $4,000 in damages while Crosby's Nissan had an
estimated $2,500 in damages and the parked 1987 Nissan suffered $1,000
in damages to the front passenger side.
