The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), will be paving Canterbury Drive (Rte #1119) and Pine Road (Rte #1104) in the Town of Halifax during the middle of this week of April 14, weather permitting. Residents in those neighborhoods are encouraged to be aware of this activity, plan accordingly and drive carefully while the paving work is taking place. VDOT will also conduct street sweeping service within the Town of Halifax on all VDOT maintained primary and secondary roads with curb and gutter on Monday, April 28 starting in residential and residential mixed-use areas at 3:30 pm. The VDOT crew plans to delay sweeping the sections along the Main Street commercial area until after 5:00 p.m. later that afternoon as a convenience to businesses and patrons. Residents and businesses within the town are encouraged to park vehicles off-street to allow the VDOT road crew full access to curb and gutter areas. The Halifax Police Department will assist with notification and relocation of any vehicles blocking the sweeping areas. The purpose is to clear any sand residue remaining from road applications during the winter months as performed routinely on an annual basis. The VDOT Residency Office and Bethel Maintenance Shed has provided more reliable and regular street sweeping service using equipment purchased several years ago.
