South Boston Town Council has a relatively light agenda for its regular monthly meeting tonight with one public hearing scheduled at the beginning of the session.
That hearing will focus on a proposed amendment to the Town code which will allow for changeable signs.
Town Planners during an earlier meeting recommended that the change be made to the Town code and described the change sign as one that is designed so that the characters, letters or illustrations can be changed or rearranged, manually or electronically without altering the face or surface of the sign.
Planners also specified that no more than three lines of text can be changed and the text on the face of the sign shall remain in place for at least five seconds. They also recommended that the maximum size of electronic signs should be no more than 45 square feet and that for safety reasons the signs must be placed so as not to divert the attention of motorists.
The only other item on Council’s agenda tonight is approval of the Board of Viewers to close and abandon an alleyway adjacent to 102 Merritt Street and sell the property to adjacent property owner.
