The Halifax County School system is looking for one biology teacher
with a Masters degree in biology or at least 18 hours of post graduate
study completed in biology. That was the report from Deputy
Superintendent of Schools Larry Clark who does the recruiting for
teachers in the local system.
Overall, however, Clark was very pleased with the results of his
teacher recruiting effort this year. "We have been very fortunate to
have many young locals who are returning to our community to teach," he
said. Combined with the consolidation of faculty members from those
schools which were closed for the coming year, Clark said currently he
has only one elementary teacher vacancy, and he has several
applications in hand for that position.
He explained that finding the needed biology teacher with a Master's
degree may be difficult because the school system will be competing
with community colleges, as well as four year institutions for that
person. "If we aren't able to find that person, we will work with our
local community colleges to find a way to fill our need," he said.
"This has been a good year for recruitment," he added, saying that when
you have as many teachers displaced by schools closings and you find a
position for which they are qualified and have a job, then that's good.
But," he added," we realize they may not all be entirely happy with
their new assignments.
