WSET staffers spent several days in the town, taking pictures and
talking with townspeople. Starting tomorrow, September 4, Halifax will
be featured from 12:30 to 1 p.m. daily through Saturday, September 8.
The first segment focuses on the town's recent revitalization efforts
and a talk with Town Manager Carl Espy, as well as an interview with
owners of the Town's upscale restaurant, Molassis Grill. Mayor Leon
Plaster will also join Espy in talking about the Town's revitalization
effort and its plans to attract businesses.
On the following days various businesses in the town will be featured —
about three each day — through Saturday. One of the most interesting
interviews will be with Mr. Howard Dix, who manages the Halifax
Exchange Store where customers can find just about anything from dish
towels to tools and calendars. The store, which has been open for 60
years, is always an attraction for visitors to the town.
All of the interviews will lead up to Saturday's first ever Historic
Festival which is celebrating the Town's revitalization and which is
being presented by the Halifax Village Business Association and the
Town. The day starts off with a canoe trip down the Banister River for
those who wish to participate, followed by activities beginning at 10
a.m. with vendors of arts and crafts lining the street as well as food
vendors. Several groups will provide musical entertainment during the
day and children will enjoy face painting and a magic show on the
Courthouse Square. The wine fest which features products from Bright
Meadows Farm, Rebec Vineyards, Peaks of Otter Winery and Tomahawk Mill
Winery will open at 2 p.m.. Music will be provided by 6th and Main and
The Blues Report. Tickets for the festival are on sale at Triangle
Florist and Halifax Floral & Framing.
