County Supervisors on Monday night voted themselves a raise, effective
January 1, 2008 by passing a resolution which calls for Board members to
receive $500 monthly for their services and the chairman to receive $600 per
month. Currently Board members receive $400 monthly with the chairman
getting $500. County Administrator Bryan Foster reminded members they could
only increase their salaries once every four years when at least 40 percent
of the members were running for re-election.
Veteran Supervisor R. E. "Dickie" Abbott advised his fellow board members
that to the best of his recollection, salaries for Supervisors had not been
increased since 1976. The resolution was passed on a unanimous 7-0 vote
(ED#5 Supervisor James Edmunds was absent from the Monday night meeting.)
In other business the Board voted to hold a public hearing on the nearly
completed countywide Comprehensive Plan in the near future, although not
setting a definite date as yet. ED#4 Supervisor noted the utmost importance
of the Plan, which he said will have a significant effect on the future
growth of the County. "I can't stress strongly enough the importance of our
citizens' input on this plan, and I hope that people will understand its
significance on land use across the county, " Bowman said.
Members of the County Improvement Council presented the Supervisors with a
plaque of appreciation for their support in helping to clean up the county
and help with recycling. Council members also recognized one of their own,
Mary F. Dixon of ED#3 who has served on the Improvement Council for the past
34 years.
Supervisors made several appointments including naming Carlyle Wimbish to
the Southside Community Services Board and Tommy Reagan to the Regional
Library Board to fill the seat vacated by the late Josephine Marshall. They
also named Mrs. Jo Wimbish to the Library Board and Catherine Howard to fill
the slot formerly held by Tom Kluge whose term expires this month. |
