Local businessman John Cannon has a new job — cleaning up Riverdale. On

Thursday morning he had an old refrigeration unit removed from the side

of US 501 near the carwash there with the capable help of Tim Hackney

and John Mele.“I’m determined to see Riverdale cleaned up,” Cannon said, noting that he has purchased a tract of land behind “Something Fishy” and removed debris from an old warehouse that stood there before it was demolished by flood waters in the 1970’s.Explaining that most visitors to the community enter along the 501 highway from the south, Cannon said, “This is the gateway to the Town of South Boston where so much progress has been made with the renovation of The Prizery and the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center. I just hope that other property owners here will join in the

crusade to clean up the entire area and take pride in it.”
