The Current Issues Committee of South Boston Town Council will discuss
a request from Founders College to rezone a portion of its property to
Planned Development Business and Planned Development Residential when
members meet this afternoon at 5:45 p.m. in Council Chambers on Yancey
Street. The Town's Planning Commission has held a public hearing on the
request and is recommending approval.
The committee will also receive a report from the Town's four member
Board of Viewers dealing with a request from Mr. Leon Brade of Suggs
Avenue who is asking that the Town close an unopened alley which lies
at the rear of his property.
Members will also review a proposed amendment to the Town Code which
gives the Halifax County Service Authority the ability to enforce
Chapter 106 Utilities which deals with water and sewer services since
South Boston will not be directly supplying these services after
January 1, 2008.
The committee is also being asked to consider amending the Town Code to
allow members of the Town's Planning Commission to serve more than two
full four year terms. Two of the current members — Mrs. Harriett
Claiborne and Mr. Fields Thomas — have both completed the full two year
terms and the Commission chairman, George Leonard, is asking that they
be allowed to continue their service.
Finance members will meet following the Current Issues Committee to
review the monthly financial statement. After that Council will convene
if there are matters that need to be addressed before the regular
December 10 meeting.
