The streets of South Boston were lined with visitors as Santa Claus
made his annual appearance during Saturday night's Christmas Parade.
The night was magical and musical,  said Sara Davis, Parade
Coordinator. The lights on the floats gave a magical feel to the
parade and the wonderful music from the singing groups and marching
bands filled the downtown with the Christmas spirit,  she added.
Annin & Company took first place in the secular float category with
Coldwell Banker Powell Realty ñ Marine Corps Reserves with Toys for
Tots being second. In third place was the float entered by Cub Scout
Troop 496 and Boy Scout Troop #497.
True Light Baptist Church took top honors among the religious floats
with County Line Baptist Church coming in second and The Worship Center
in third place.
The New Attraction Band was named the top musical group with Barry
Mabins of the Antique Riders Car Club winning the best antique car
entry.
In a new twist, Jessica Auld took first place in the dog category with
her chihuahua, Sandy while Carolyn Strohm and Pug came in second, Wendy
Van Eimerem and her dog Katy placed third.
County Line Baptist Church won the prize for the Most Creative Use of
Lights and four year old Jessica Bailey, riding her Shetland pony,
Minnie Mouse, was named the best dressed horse and rider.
The True Light Baptist Church won the prize for the best themed entry
and excitement was all along the streets as seven visiting bands from
Park View, Bluestone, Oxford, NC, Prince Edward, Dan River and
Lunenburg high school performed Christmas melodies.
Of course, the local Blue Comet band presented a medley of Christmas
music to the delight of the crowd. Horse back riders, fire trucks and
emergency service vehicles, along with antique cars completed the
annual event.
One longtime observer noted it was the best parade she had ever seen in
South Boston.
