The Halifax County Serenity Cancer Garden Association will hold its
fall brick dedication Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m. at the Serenity
Cancer Garden in Edmunds Park, South Boston. This will be the third
brick dedication service held thus far and according to Paula Whitlow,
who initiated the construction of the memorial garden, dedication
services are held each spring and fall.
"We usually average a donation of about sixty bricks each time we hold
a dedication," said Whitlow. The bricks are four inches by eight inches
long and sell for $60 each while the larger bricks are 8 inches by
eight inches and sell for $100. "It is my hope that all the remaining
donations will be made to honor survivors of cancer, rather than
victims," she said. Whitlow says Charles Anderson has landscaped the
garden with various plants and shrubs and has done a beautiful job
there.
Those attending are asked to bring a chair. Light refreshments will be
served after the program.
For more information on the Serenity Cancer Garden and how you may
purchase an engraved brick in honor or in memory of someone touched by
cancer, call Paula Whitlow, 434-454-7042 or you may pick up a brick
form at The Gazette-Virginian on Halifax Rd., South Boston, Va.
