South Boston Town Council will hold its regular monthly work session this afternoon beginning at 5:45 p.m. in Council Chambers on Yancey Street. Current Issues Committee (CIC) members will first hear a
recommendation from the Town Planning Commission seeking revocation of the special use permit granted to Robert Pulliam of The Shop back on November 13, 2006. Their request for revoking the permit stems from the
owner's failure to comply with all the conditions placed on the special use permit. Town Manager Ted Daniel will ask that a public hearing on the revocation be set for Council's regular May 12 meeting. Committee members will also hear a report from Councilman Chris Elliott on work underway by the Joint Vehicle Decal Committee and another
report from the Solid Waste Joint Committee on which Councilmen Coleman Speece and Morris Bryant serve. They will also receive an update on rental inspection districts and a request to establish two new districts.
Finance Committee members will hear a request to schedule a public hearing for Councils May 12 regular monthly meeting on the Town's proposed $8.9 million budget for the coming FY 2009. They will also entertain a request to set a public hearing on May 19 to hear citizen comment on the proposed real estate tax rate increase of 19 cents per
$100 assessed value. While the rate is the same, due to increases in reassessed real property, there is an increase in the amount of tax collected, thus a public hearing is mandatory.
