Halifax County Supervisors will be meeting for today and tomorrow at
Roverstone Technology Park for their annual retreat during which
time
they will hear from several departments and map plans for the coming
year.
They will begin their annual planning by meeting with the Halifax
County School Board for an hour long session beginning at 9 a.m.
this
morning. Following that they will review activities and
accomplishments
of county departments over the past year.
Also this morning Board members will discuss solid waste issues
including the transfer station and county convenience centers. They
are
also expected to seriously consider possible incentives to promote
greater recycling efforts to try to cut down on the amount of solid
waste that has to go to the regional landfill in Boydton.
In the afternoon Board members will look at County finances
including
consideration of land use taxation and agricultural and forestal
districts adn the new real estate assessements. They are also
expected
to discuss conservation easemetns.
The afternoon session will conclude with discussion of several
topics
including possible uses of the fairgrounds property, what to do with
the recently closed elementary school properties, such as Halifax
and
Turbeville elementaries, as well as C.H. Friend, Wilson Memorial,
Cluster Springs and South of Dan.
On Friday morning the Board will begin their second day of the
retreat,
meeting with members of the Industrial Development Authority at 8:30
p.m. and then following up on their discussions of the previous day.
They will begin their final discussion around 10:15 by formulating
goals, objectives and a work plan for the coming year. They plan to
adjourn at noon on Friday.
