PSA-Town of Halifax Christmas/New Years Holiday Schedule & Notice for 2008 Sanitation/Recycling Service

Halifax Town Hall will be closed on Monday December 24 and Tuesday,
December 25 in observance of the Christmas Holiday and again on Monday,
December 31 and Tuesday, January 1 for New Years. The Town of Halifax
Sanitation Department will conduct a modified solid waste/recycling
pick-up during the holiday season:
Wednesday, December 26 and January 2,  the Town of Halifax Sanitation
Department will not conduct regular weekly curbside recycling until
Wednesday January 9. Town residents may take their properly prepared
recyclable materials to the large bins provided at the Blue Ridge
Regional Jail lower parking lot.
Wednesday, December 26 and January 2 residents normally served on
Monday will have solid waste picked-up. This area includes Mountain
Road, Canterbury Drive, Mimosa Drive, Oak Lane, Pine Lane, Cedar Lane,
Poplar Lane, Crawford Road, Academy Street, Craddock Street, and Main
Street (from Mountain Road south to the RR Tracks).
Thursday, December 27 and January 3, residents normally served on this
day will receive their regular pick-up as scheduled. This area includes
Maple Avenue, Buena Vista Drive, Park Lane, Lakeside Drive, Harding
Street, Snead Lane, Elam Street, Hedderly Street, Jackson Street, Back
Street, Main Street (from Mountain Road north on US Hwy 501 and east on
State Hwy 360 to the corporate limits).
Friday, December 28 and January 4 residents normally served on Tuesday
will have solid waste picked up. This area includes properties along US
Hwy 501 south from the RR Tracks to the corporate limits, Golf Course
Road, Brookrun Trail, Cowford Road, Banister Road, Gatha's Trail and
Ballou Trail.
The Town of Halifax offers free curbside pickup of certain recyclable
material in an effort to adhere to the requirement that all residents
and commercial establishments from which the town collects refuse
separate and make available for collection such recyclables (Code
adopted by Halifax Town Council 05-13-91 and amended on 03-14-06). As
an incentive and to reduce the costs of longer distance for solid waste
hauling, a plastic recycling bin to collect and store material is
provided by the town at no cost. To sign up for the program, please
call Halifax Town Hall at 434-476-2343. If you live or do business in
the Town of Halifax corporate limits, the town will pick up your
recycling in front of your home or business every Wednesday. Simply
have your recycling bin at the curb by 8:00 a.m.
Because of the closing of the South Boston landfill on December 31, the
Town of Halifax is working with the Halifax County Public Works
Department and the Halifax County Improvement Council to ensure a
smooth transition of waste disposal and hauling to the Mecklenburg
County Regional landfill prior to the completion of the Halifax County
transfer station. Customers will be notified of any changes in the
customary solid waste and recycling procedures during the 2008
transition period.
