South Boston Police Department Announces Promotions


South Boston Police Sergeant Dennis Barker has been promoted to
Lieutenant effective  July 20, 2007.  Lt. Barker has served as Sergeant
in the SBPD since Oct. 2004 and has been with the Department since
1996. Sergeant Barker will supervise the Patrol Division of the
Department.
Corporal Chris Carswell has been promoted to Sergeant effective  July
20, 2007 filling the Sergeant's vacancy created by Lt. Barker's
promotion.  Sgt. Carswell has served as Corporal since Sept. 2004 and
has been with the Department since 1998.  In his new role, Carswell
will be a shift supervisor in the Patrol Division of the Department.
In announcing the promotions, Town Manager Ted Daniel complemented
Chief Jim Binner and Deputy Chief Brian Lovelace for the thoroughness
of the evaluation and selection process.  Daniel noted that all
applicants for the positions were extraordinarily qualified, and Barker
and Carswell are to be commended for their achievements.
