Halifax County Planners have three public hearings scheduled for their
meeting tomorrow night. Gathering in the second floor meeting room of
the Bethune Complex, Commissioners will first entertain public comment
on a request for a conditional use permit in ED#3 submitted by Jamie R.
Barksdale which would allow him to operate an auto repair service at
1021 Barksdale Drive.
The second hearing focuses on a rezoning request and a conditional use
permit application in ED#2 from Tony Powell. Powell is asking the
Planners to recommend the rezoning of a five acre tract from A-1 to B-2
on the southwest side of Allen Trail (Route 803) which is located about
one and half miles southeast of Dryburg Road (Route 716). He is also
seeking a conditional use permit which will allow him to operate a
recycling center for scrap metal and junk automobiles. at that
location.
BHK of America is seeking a conditional use permit in ED#6 to conduct
retail sales in its manufacturing facility at 3045 Philpott Road, South
Boston. Planners will report their recommendations on the three
requests to County Supervisors at their upcoming May 7 meeting.
County Planning head Jerry Lovelace will review with Commissioners the
actions taken by Supervisors at their regular April monthly meeting
during which time the governing body approved conditional use permits
for a mud bog operation in ED#3 and a kart track in ED#5 for South
Boston Speedway. The Board denied a conditional use permit for a dance
hall in ED#2. Action was delayed on a conditional use permit request
for a Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative tower.
