A small experimental homemade aircraft lost power Monday night shortly after
7 p.m., crashing on Terry's Bridge Road. The miraculous part of the story is
that the pilot, 53 year old Kelly Landrum, walked away from the crash,
suffering injuries to the head, but was treated and released from Halifax
Regional Hospital.
According to Sgt. Dave Cooper of the Virginia State Police, the two seat
aircraft was circling to make a landing in a small private landing field
across the road from the home of the pilot at 1244 North Terrys Bridge Road,
when the engine failed and lost power. The plane fell, striking a couple of
trees and both wings were torn off. The plane was declared a total loss.
The crash was investigated by Virginia State Trooper T. C. Comer |
