Mr. Alfred Sherwood Vaughters
Mr. Alfred Sherwood Vaughters, 49, of Shepherd Street, South Boston died
Saturday, August 4, 2007 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on
January 11, 1958, a son of Pastor Annie Ruth Mosley Vaughters and the late
Mr. Joseph Alfred Vaughters. He was married to Mrs. Alice Ferrell
Claiborne Vaughters, was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church and was
employed by TFX Trucking Company, Inc.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by one son, Mr.
Sherwood Whitehead of Clover; three sisters, Mrs. Joanne Wilborn of Saxe,
Mrs. Jackie Fields of Richmond, Mrs. Tiffany Davis of Randolph; two
brothers, Mr. Stanley R. Vaughters of Clover and Mr. Marvin A. Vaughters
of Red Oak; three step-sons, Mr. Michael Claiborne and Mr. Derek
Claiborne, both of Virginia Beach and Mr. Phillip Claiborne of South
Boston; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Catherine Ferrell of Clover, 10
step-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Pentecostal Holiness
Church with Rev. John Ed Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in the
church cemetery.
Pauline Dare Heishman
PeerPauline Dare Heishman Peer, 98, died August 6, 2007 at The Woodview.
She was born August 2, 1909 in Wardensville, WV, a daughter of the late
Arthur Lee and Clara Ellen Heishman. She was a lifelong member of St.
Peters Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert
C. Peer and by three brothers, two sisters and one grandson, Jeffrey
Sterling Peer.
She is survived by two sons, Cecil Clinton Peer of Cleveland, OH and Clyde
Franklin Peer and wife Barbara of South Boston; two grandsons, Michael
Conrad Peer of South Boston and Thomas Craig Peer of Camden, NC and one
great-granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Peer.
Funeral services will be held today at St. Peters Lutheran Church,
Wardensville and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may
be directed to the Wardensville WV Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2, Wardensville,

Mrs. Florence Louise Guthrie Graves
Mrs. Florence Louise Guthrie Graves, 78, of 1111 Sinai Road, South Boston
died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on
April 1, 1929, a daughter of the late Mr. Samuel Edward Guthrie and Mrs.
Dorothy E. Guthrie Leigh. She was married to the late Mr. Joseph H. Graves
and was a member of Banister Hill C.M.E. Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nannie G. Dixon of Capitol Heights,
MD and Ms. Permelia L. (Pam) Graves of the home; three sons, Mr. Joseph C.
Graves of Drakes Branch, Mr. James B. Graves of Danville and Mr. W.
Michael Graves of Nathalie; one sister, Mrs. Virginia L. Scruggs of
Richmond; one brother, Mr. Dennis D. Leigh of Arlington; one
granddaughter, Ms. Tiffani N. Graves; one grandson, Mr. Isaiah J. Graves;
one step-grandson, Mr. Tevan Eggleston; one son-in-law, Mr. Starling
Dixon; three daughters-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Graves, Mrs. Kathy Graves and
Mrs. Wandra Graves; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death
by one brother, Mr. Joseph Guthrie and one granddaughter, Ms. Nevaeh E.
Graves.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Banister
Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. William F. Carr officiating. Burial will
follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight
from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Crawford House Chapel, Halifax.
Mr. Robert Phillip Brodhead
Mr. Robert Phillip Brodhead, 69, of 208 Rivers Bend Lane, Red Oak died
Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in
Norwich, Connecticut on March 29, 1938, a son of the late Edward Leo Bonin
and Margaret Lucille Bonin.
He is survived by two sisters, Patricia Scott and husband Roger of Red
Oak, Lucille Gaudreau of Kingman, AZ, three nephews and two nieces.
Memorial services and interment will be held at a later date in Voluntown,
Connecticut.
Miss Margaret Ann Terry
Miss Margaret Ann Terry, 63, of 1120 Old Concord Road, Nathalie died
Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at her home. She was born in Lynchburg on December
26, 1943, a daughter of the late Joel Phillip Terry and Frances Brumfield
Terry. She was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Ellen T. Tunnicliff and husband Jerold
of Nathalie, Betty J. Berry of Danville and Deborah S. Terry of Nathalie;
one niece and nephew, Lisa T. Brown and husband Jarrod and James
Tunnicliff and wife Karen; two great-nephews and two great-nieces, Trevor
Brown and Nathan Brown, Autumn Ward and Madison Tunnicliff.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Mulberry
Baptist Church with Rev. Latta Terry and Rev. Coy Terry officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends
tonight from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home. Memorials may be
directed to the North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of
your choice.
Ms. Shirley Mae Sydnor Coleman
Ms. Shirley Mae Sydnor Coleman, 57, of 1118 Cole Street, South Boston died
Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on
April 6, 1950, a daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Newton and Ms. Alice
Sydnor. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Ferry Street and a
former employee of The Woodview Nursing Home.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Tonkaneka Ferrell of South Boston;
one brother, Mr. Willie R. Sydnor of Halifax; two grandchildren, one
son-in-law, Mr. Steven Ferrell; four aunts, Mrs. Elvira Faulkner, Mrs. Eva
Canada, Mrs. Arminta Lowery, Mrs. Emma Hamlett; one niece, two nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 12 at 3:00 p.m. at First
Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in
Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
