Obituaries
Mr. William Jackson "Bob" Long
Mr. William Jackson "Bob" Long, Sr., 97, of Melon Road, Turbeville
died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at The Woodview. Born October 16, 1909 in
Halifax County, he was a farmer and a member of First Cross Roads
Baptist Church.
Mr. Long is survived by a son, William J. "Bobby" Long, Jr. and wife,
Patsy of Halifax, a grandson, William J. "W.J." Long, III, a
granddaughter, Kelly L. Weatherford, three great grandchildren, Kelly
L. Weatherford, Meghan Weatherford and Eleanor Grace Weatherford and a
great grandchild, William Jackson Long, IV, three step-great
grandchildren, Samantha Starke, Cameron Starke and Sarah L. DeJarnette
and two sisters, Daisy L. Martin and Virginia L. Satterfield, both of
Turbeville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Chaney Long and
his parents, George Morgan Long and Mannie Satterfield Long.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
and at other times at the home of Bobby and Patsy Long, 2041 Golf
Course Road, Halifax. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday,
August 7 at 11 a.m. at First Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery with
the Rev. Dan Ward officiating. The family requests that in lieu of
flowers, memorials be made to First Cross Roads Baptist Church or the
Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department. Online condolences may be sent to

Mrs. Louise Herrington Wenzel
Mrs. Louise Herrington Wenzel, 68, of 1110 Roberts Trail, Halifax died
Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in
Norfolk on October 17, 1938, daughter of the late Marvin E. Herrington
and Ann Graham Way Herrington and was married to Markwood King Wenzel.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy W. Satterfield and husband
Steve of Halifax, Laura W. Coning and husband John of South Boston; one
son, Ward Wenzel and wife Amy of South Boston; and four grandchildren,
Jacob and Lydia Wenzel, Anne and Daniel McDonald.
Memorial services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Powell Funeral
Home with Rev. Ann Davidson officiating. Memorials may be directed to
the Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875, South Boston, VA
24592 or the Halifax County Humane Society, P.O. Box 969, South Boston,
VA 24592.
Mr. J. Coleman Green
Mr. J. Coleman Green, Sr., 85, of Richmond, formerly of South Boston,
died Saturday, August 4, 2007. Survivors include his wife of 63 years
Virginia T. Green, a son John C. Green, Jr. and his wife, Doddy, six
grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mr. Green was a U.S. Navy
veteran with service during World War II. He retired from Virginia
Power after 38 years of service. He was also a member of the American
Legion and the VFW.
His remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020
Huguenot Road, (Midlothian) where the family will receive friends from
2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and where funeral services will
be held at 12 noon Tuesday. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at
Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice.
