Mrs. Sarah Morris Conner,
Mrs. Sarah Morris Conner, 94, of 184 Buffalo Road, Clarksville died Friday, August 17, 2007 at Meadowview Terrace, Clarksville. Born in Halifax County on October 6, 1912, she was a homemaker and a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Conner is survived by a son, Stanley Ruben Conner and wife Joyce of Chase City, ten grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a number of great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Washington Conner and her parents, Ruben Henry Morris and Cornelia Day Morris, a son, Bruce Conner, and two daughters, Clemon Chambers and Anndru Guthrie, four brothers and eight sisters.
A graveside service for Mrs. Conner will be conducted today, August 20 at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Woodfin officiating. On-line condolences may be sent to brooksfh@embarqmail.com.

Mr. David Wayne Brown,
Mr. David Wayne Brown, age 47, of 3043 N. Terry’s Bridge Road, Halifax died Saturday, August 18, 2007 at his home. Funeral services were incomplete at presstime and will be announced soon by Powell Funeral Home.


Roy Randolph Smith
Roy Randolph Smith, Sr., 86, of 1231 Bold Springs Road, South Boston died Wednesday, August 15, 2007. He was born September 2, 1920 in Halifax County, a son of the late Jessie Thomas Smith and Ida Trickey Smith and was married to Mary Brandon Smith. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 8 and VFW Post 8243 and an Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Gayle Smith Haley and husband Bill of South Boston; one son, Roy Randolph "Randy" Smith and wife Cindy of South Boston; one sister, Myrtle S. Link of South Boston; one brother, Harry T. Smith of South Boston; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Madie Harris and Pauline Johnson and two brothers, Richard Smith and Thomas Smith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 18 at Harmony United Methodist Church with Rev. Liz Buxton and Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Harmony United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 12, Alton, VA 24520 or the Halifax County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 183, South Boston, VA 24592.

Mrs. Annie Cordie Carr Lovelace                                                             Mrs. Annie Cordie Carr Lovelace, 88, of Orange, NY and formerly of Halifax County, died August 15, 2007 at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ. She was born in Halifax County on January 30, 1919, a daughter of the late Mrs. Eliza Jane Carr and Mr. Junior Adams and she was married to Mr. James Lovelace and was a member of Millstone Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lassie Inez Kimble, Mrs. Garnet Mae Moore and Mrs. Polly Frances Ward; one son, Mr. James Lewis Lovelace; two sons-in-law, Mr. David Kimble and Mr. Eugene Slayton; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Vernice Williams; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Janie Williams and Mrs. Emma Tucker; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ms. Eloise Lovelace.
Funeral services will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at Millstone Baptist Church with Rev. Chester Spruill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church today.
 

Mr. Lloyd Hampton Carrington
Mr. Lloyd Hampton Carrington, 56, of Clover died Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on March 30, 1951, a son of Mrs. Saluda Z. Dabbs Carrington and the late Mr. Beverly Carrington, Jr. He was married to Mrs. Wendy Loftis Carrington and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one daughter, Ms. Whitney L. Carrington of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel D. Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, Mrs. Joyce A. Garrett of South Boston, Mrs. Virginia L. Clark and Mrs. Janice C. Lacks, both of Clover; three brothers, Mr. Shirley K. Carrington, Mr. Beverly K. Carrington and Mr. Malcolm R. Carrington, all of Clover; four brothers-in-law, Mr. Jerry Johnson, Mr. Kenneth Garrett, Mr. Frank Clark and Mr. Ronnie Lacks; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Wallicia Carrington; a devoted friend, Mr. Jerome Betts; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Whitfield Scott officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends tonight from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
