Obituaries
Mr. Joe Edward Davis
Mr. Joe Edward Davis, 74, of 103 Rosehill Drive, South Boston died
Saturday, August 11, 2007 at The Woodview. Born in Halifax County on July
26, 1933, he was retired from U.S. Plywood and was a member of the Baptist
faith.
Mr. Davis is survived by two sisters, Bertha Martin and Margie Jones and
two brothers, William Davis and Albert “Butch” Davis, all of South Boston
and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Albert and Alice Newby Davis, four sisters, Elsie D. Hamm,
Lavania D. Yancey, Lossie D. Choplin and Inez D. Morris and a brother
Lewis Davis.
Graveside services for Mr. Davis will be conducted at Oak Ridge Cemetery
on Tuesday, August 14 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Carolyn Perkins, 915 Old
Berry Hill Road, South Boston. The family requests that those wishing to

Mr. Calvin Wilson Wilmouth
Mr. Calvin Wilson Wilmouth , 89, of 1230 Storys Creek Road, Alton died
Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born December 22,
1917 in Halifax County, he was a self employed farmer and an Army veteran
of World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Wilmouth is survived by his wife, Lilly Martin Wilmouth of the home
and a son, Kenneth Wilson “Skip” Wilmouth and wife Rose, of Alton, a
daughter, Caroline W. Earp and husband David of Mechanicsville, MD and a
granddaughter, Carlean Earp and a grandson, David Harold Earp, Jr. and two
step granddaughters, Christy Francisco and Tracy Matthews, four step
grandchildren, Ryan Smith and Cody Francisco and Mackensie Francisco and
Breyer Matthews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Wilmouth
and Daisy King Wilmouth.
A graveside service for Mr. Wilmouth will be conducted at the Clover
cemetery on Wednesday, August 15 at 2 p.m. with David Earp officiating.

Grace Pulliam Bradshaw
Grace Pulliam Bradshaw, 92, of 3231 Cedar Grove Road, Alton died Thursday,
August 9, 2007 at The Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on January
13, 1915, a daughter of the late Walter Scott and Mary Gordon Pulliam and
was married to the late H. Reid Bradshaw. She was a member of Alton
Baptist Church and was a retired CNA at The Woodview.
She is survived by one daughter, Merle Osborne of Alton; two sons, Wayne
Bradshaw and wife Harriett of South Boston, Lloyd Bradshaw and wife
Patricia of Alton; one sister, Janie Pulliam Nicols and husband Elmer of
South Boston; grandchildren, Kelly Bradshaw, Scottie Bradshaw, Tracey
Reaves and husband Barry, Christy Sherrill and husband Brian;
great-grandchildren, Kelsey Bradshaw, Madeline Reaves, Jon-Michael Reaves,
Karli Sherrill, Mallory Sherrill and nephew, Graham Bradshaw, Jr. She was
preceded in death by brothers John, Ned and Ernest Pulliam.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Alton
Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Ball conducting the service. Burial
followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alton

Paul Ludson Whitlow
Paul Ludson Whitlow, 91, a native of Clover, died Thursday, August 9, 2007
at Bayside Convalescent of Poquoson. He served in the United States Navy
from 1934 to 1938. He retired from the welding department in 1967 after 27
years at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co and later retired
after 14 years of service as a welder at the age of 65 from Celanese
Corporation in Narrows.
He is survived by his son, Paul A. Whitlow, Sr. and wife, Barbara of
Poquoson; three daughters, Linda Yarbrough of Houston, TX, Mary Catherine
Sheuring and husband, Gary of Samford, FL, and Rosie Hartsell and husband,
Alfred of Newport News; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three
great-great-grandchildren; and his former second wife, Martha Mercer. He
was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Daniel Fuller, his
third wife, Lillian Shirey Whitlow; his parents, Bertha Locks and William
Ernest Whitlow; four brothers, David Whitlow, John William Whitlow, Claude
Whitlow, and Saint Elmo Whitlow; and one sister, Elsie Mae Spencer.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Claytor Rollins
Funeral Home, Poquoson by Rev. James D. Thomas. Interment will follow at
Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News with military honors. Memorials may

Mr. Gathon Louis Pointer
Mr. Gathon Louis Pointer of 1112 Brandon Chapel Road, Alton died
Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Meadowview Terrace in Clarksville at the age
of 74. Born in Halifax County on May 1, 1933 to the late Mr. Roland
Pointer and Mrs. Gedale Poteat Pointer, his surrogate parents were the
late Mr. Aaron Pointer and Mrs. Cora Mae Pointer. He was formerly married
to Mrs. May M. Stephens Pointer.
Mr. Pointer is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Deborah Jean Price of
Alton, Mrs. Brenda M. Harris of Blanch, NC, Ms. Tammy Richardson and Ms.
Elsie Richardson, both of Washington DC, a son, Mr. Gregory A. Pointer of
South Boston, 19 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Caroline Pointer of South Boston and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. He was preceded in
death by a son, Mr. Louis Pointer, Jr. and two sisters, Ms. Irene Pointer
and Mrs. Willie Mae Brandon and a brother, Mr. Thomas Pointer.
A funeral service for Mr. Pointer will be held Tuesday, August 14 at 2
p.m. at the Crawford House Chapel in Halifax with Rev. Elton Medley
officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Gregory Pointer, 1705 Vaughan Street, South Boston, VA.
Mr. Wallace Currie
Mr. Wallace Currie of Newport News, formerly of
Halifax County, died Friday, August 10, 2007 in Newport News at the age of
57. Born in Halifax County on April 28, 1950 to the late Mr. Alfred Junior
Currie and Mrs. Lillie Singletary Currie, he was a Vietnam veteran and a
retired employee of Norfolk Naval Base. He was a member of Mt. Olive
Baptist Church.
Mr. Currie is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Janice Brown of Chase City and
Ms. Gwendolyn Currie of South Boston, a brother, Mr. Anthony Currie of
South Boston and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mr.
Benjamin Currie.
A funeral service for Mr. Currie will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 1
p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Ferrell
officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens with military
honors by American Legion Post 99. The family will receive friends at the
home of Ms. Gwendolyn Currie, 1816 Grace Avenue, South Boston.
