Obituaries
Mr. Lorenzo Dow Ragland,
Mr. Lorenzo Dow Ragland, 71, of 156 East Academy Street, Asheboro, NC,
formerly of Halifax County, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at
Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. He was born in Halifax County on
September 6, 1936, a son of the late Lorenzo Emmitt Ragland and Bertha
Moore Ragland. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Pamela R. McKinnon and husband Tony
of Asheboro, NC, Cindy R. Keesee of Asheboro, NC and Jacqueline R.
Lippard and husband David of Clayton, NC; granddaughter, Brianna
Sutherlin and grandsons, Cobey Cox and wife Stephanie, Matthew
McKinnon, Michael McKinnon and Nathan Lippard and one great-grandson,
Devon Adkins. Graveside services were held Saturday, December 29 at
Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Carol Nolan and Sylvia Foxworth
officiating and music by Brianna Sutherlin. Memorials may be directed
to Asheboro Hospice, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203 or Halifax
Regional Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, VA 24592.
Mr. Joseph Coleman Talley,
Mr. Joseph Coleman Talley, 72, of Alexandria, formerly of Halifax
County, has died. He was born August 8, 1935, a son of the late Mr.
Irving Talley and Mrs. Bettie Gravitt Talley and was married to Mrs.
Shirley Talley. He is survived by one son, Mr. Patrick Talley of
Alexandria; one
sister, Ms. Elaine Talley of Maryland; three aunts, Mrs. Cecil T.
Crutchfield, Mrs. Katie T. Williams, Mrs. Gracie T. Stanfield. He was
preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. William Talley, Mr. Arthur
Talley and Mr. Otis Talley and two sisters, Ms. Nannie Talley and Mrs.
Dorothy Talley Tuck. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 29 at
Antioch Bible Way Church, Alexandria.
Mrs. Helen Petty Henry
Mrs. Helen Petty Henry of 2001 North Main Street, South Boston died
Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of
77. Born in Halifax County on May 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the
late Mr. Alex Petty, Sr. and Mrs. Curlie Wood Petty and was married to
the late Mr. Patrick Marshall Henry. She was a member of St. Luke
Apostolic Church. Mrs. Henry is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pearly
P. Majors and Ms. Susie D. Henry, both of South Boston, four sisters,
Mrs. Lottie Mae Logan of Philadelphia, PA, Mrs. Bernell P. Brown of
Bladensburg, MD,
Mrs. Martha Ann Mansui of Landover, MD and Ms. Harriettie Petty of
South Boston, a brother, Mr. John H. Petty of South Boston, two
grandchildren, Mr. Kevin Petty of South Boston and Mrs. Quanda Kelly
of Winston Salem, NC, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by
three sisters, Mrs. Nannie Maude Smith, Mrs. Parrie Leary and Mrs. May
Emma Carter and five brothers, Mr. Andrew Petty, Mr. Willie Petty, Mr.
Alexander Petty, Jr., Mr. Hazel Petty and Mr. Robert Petty.
A funeral service for Mrs. Henry will be held Wednesday, January 2,
2008 at 2 p.m. at Mayfield Apostolic Church with Elder Harry T. Betts
officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge cemetery. Public
viewing for family and friends will be Monday from 12 noon until 6 p.m.
at Jeffress Funeral Home and the family will receive friends at her
home, 2001 North Main Street, South Boston.
