Obituaries
Mr. William Burton Weatherford, Sr
Mr. William Burton Weatherford, Sr. of 4106 Chatham Road, Halifax died
Saturday, December 15, 2007 at his home. Born March 12, 1913 in Halifax
County, he was 94 at the time of his death. He was the son of the late
John Anderson Weatherford, Sr. and the late Annye Hardie Weatherford and
was married to the late Mildred Dixon Weatherford. He was a member of the
Asbury United Methodist Church and the Woodmen of the World.
Mr. Burton is survived by one daughter, Margaret W. Hudson and husband
Eric of South Boston and one son, William B. Weatherford, Jr. and wife
Diane of Halifax, two grandsons, Bryon Eric Hudson and wife Julie of
Danville and Timothy Lee Weatherford of Halifax, two great grandsons,
Benjamin Hudson and Ethan Hudson of Danville, two step grandchildren, Mark
Conner of Richmond and Ann Marie Jones of Thomasville, NC and two step
great grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Jones of Thomasville, NC, a sister,
Annette W. Turner of Lawrenceville, a number of nieces and nephews, and a
devoted caregiver, Edna Hershman.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 2
p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Simmons
conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The
family will receive friends at the Asbury Methodist Church one hour prior
to the service and at other times at his home 4106 Chatham Road, Halifax.

Ms. Kimberly Renea Paige
Ms. Kimberly Renea Paige of Charlottesville, formerly of Halifax, died
Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at her residence at the age of 28. Born in
Halifax County on August 24, 1979 to Mr. George L. Paige and Mrs. Laura
Edmunds Paige, she was a member of Banister Hill Baptist Church. She was
employed with the CFA Institute in Charlottesville. Ms. Paige is survived
by her father and mother of Halifax, a sister, Ms. Syrinda E. Paige of
Falls Church, her grandmother, Mrs. Thelma Edmunds of Halifax and a host
of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Ms. Paige will be conducted on Tuesday, December 18
at 11 a.m. at Banister Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. William F.
Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church
cemetery. The family will receive friends at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel
on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider the

Mr. Herbert Eugene Ferrell
Mr. Herbert Eugene Ferrell of 103 Greenfield Road, South Boston died
Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at his home at the age of 46. Born in Halifax
County on April 29, 1961, he was the son of Mrs. Margaret Medley Ferrell
and the late Mr. Herbert I. Ferrell. He was a member of Williams Temple
C.M.E. Church and was an Army veteran.
Mr. Ferrell is survived by a daughter, Ms. Kenya Ferrell of Lawrence, MA,
a son, Mr. Myles Ferrell, also of Lawrence, MA, his mother, Mrs. Margaret
Medley Ferrell of South Boston, two sisters, Mrs. Susie Coleman and Mrs.
Cassandra Crowell, both of South Boston, a brother, Mr. William Ferrell of
South Boston, his grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Medley, a sister-in-law, two
brothers-in-law, two aunts, four uncles, a friend, Ms. Angelia Ferrell of
Nathalie, six nieces, two nephews, a great niece and a host of other
relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Ferrell will be conducted on Monday December 17
at 1 p.m. at Williams Temple C.M.E. Church with the Rev. George Brown
officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites
by the American Legion Post 99. The family is receiving friends at the
home, 103 Greenfield Road, South Boston.
Mrs. Gertrude Ferrell Chaney,
Mrs. Gertrude Ferrell Chaney, 90, of 2037 Winns Creek Road, Halifax died
Thursday, December 13, 2007 at The Woodview. She was born in Charlotte
County on April 17, 1917, a daughter of the late Sallie Ferrell and Byrd
Lee Ferrell and was married to the late Major Edmondson Chaney. She was a
member of Winns Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen C. Loftis and husband Vince of
Crystal Hill, Rachel C. Saunders of Nathalie; one son, William B. Chaney
and wife Jeanette of Halifax; six grandchildren, Ricky Loftis, Kenneth
Loftis, Mary Crews, Bruce Saunders, Cheryl Book, Catherine Chaney Gillie,
five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one sister, Martha Baldwin.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 16 at Winns Creek Baptist
Church with Rev. Jim Kopco officiating. Burial followed in the church
cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Halifax Regional Hospice, 2204

Mr. Thomas Lee Scott
Mr. Thomas Lee Scott, 60, of 3008 Allen Trail, Scottsburg died Thursday,
December 13, 2007 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on January
15, 1947, a son of the late Walter Scott and Irene Lindsey Scott and was
married to Virginia D. Scott. He attended Friendship Baptist Church and
was a logger.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Lisa Adams and
friend Dennis Robbins of Red Oak, Tammy Wade and husband Owen of
Scottsburg, Lynn Fallen and husband Jamie Fallen, Jr. of Scottsburg, Renee
Torres and husband Brigido of Scottsburg; one son, James Scott and fiancé
Lisa Mask of Scottsburg; three sisters, Christine Hazelwood of Brookneal,
Janie Scott of Clover and Lula Seamster of Nathalie; 12 grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin
Scott.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 16 at Brooks Funeral Home
Chapel with Pastor Ricky Whitlow, Jr. and Kevin Mullins officiating.
Burial followed in Saxe Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Halifax
County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875, South Boston, VA 24592.
Mrs. Bertha Mae Bailey Watson
Mrs. Bertha Mae Bailey Watson of 3047 Ball Park Loop, Halifax died
Thursday, December 13, 2007 at her home at the age of 73. Born in Halifax
on May 12, 1934 to the late Mr. James Bailey and Mrs. Beatrice Buster
Bailey, she was married to the late Mr. Perry Watson and was a member of
New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church.
Mrs. Watson is survived by four sons, Mr. Charles Watson of Fayetteville,
NC, Mr. Jerome Watson of Waldorf, MD, Mr. Joseph Watson of Chesterfield
and Mr. James Watson of Halifax, two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Reaves of
Halifax and Mrs. Helen Turner of Augusta, GA, 14 grandchildren, 13 great
grandchildren, a sister, Ms. Bessie Bailey of Halifax, three
daughters-in-law, Mrs. Lavonya Watson of Fayetteville, NC, Mrs. Sally
Watson of Waldorf, MD and Mrs. Carolyn Watson of Chesterfield, a
son-in-law, Mr. Jeff Turner of Augusta, GA, and a host of cousins, other
relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Ms.
Sheila Watson and Ms. Mamie Watson and a brother, Mr. George Bailey.
A funeral service for Mrs. Watson will be held on Wednesday, December 19
at New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church with District Elder Leonia Palmer
officiating. Burial will follow in the County Line Baptist Church
Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 3047 Ball Park
Loop, Halifax.
Harriett Irby Chambers
Athens, Ga. ó Harriett Irby Chambers, 82, wife of the late William
Thomas Chambers, died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at St. Maryís Hospice
House. Born in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Acree
Dunn Irby and Wirt Carrington Jordan Irby. A resident of Athens for 35
years, she was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her step children: William T. Billy Chambers, Jr.
and his wife Donna of Hartwell, Ga., Carol Louise Chambers of Savannah,
Ga.; two step grandchildren: Katie Norris of Lavonia, Ga., Ben Norris
of Canon, Ga.; two great great grandchildren; niece: Hope Irby Bagwell;
great niece: Elizabeth Anderson and her husband George of Ashville, NC;
three great nephews; four great nephews and one great great nephew.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Emmanuel
Episcopal Church at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Salamone officiating.

Mrs. Phyllis Wilkins Inge
Mrs. Phyllis Wilkins Inge of 1213 Nathalie Road, Nathalie died
Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born October
16, 1934 in Halifax County she was 73 at the time of her death. She was
the daughter of Joseph Sanford Wilkins and Ruth Brown Wilkins and was
married to the late Douglas Bryant Inge. She was a member of Catawba
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Inge is survived by three daughters, Jonette Inge Talbott and
husband Maurice of Nathalie, Susan Inge Thomasson of Halifax and
Elizabeth Annette Inge of Nathalie, a daughter-in-law, Janet Lester
Inge of South Boston and two grandsons, Jason Sanford Talbott and wife
Katrina of Alton and Bryant James Inge of South Boston and a
granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Inge of South Boston and two great
grandsons, Ethan John Talbott and Lucas Dale Talbott, both of Alton.
Also surviving are dear friends, Mildred Henderson, Jean Lightcap and
her many beloved cats. She was preceded in death by her husband and a
son, Douglas Mitchell Inge.
A funeral service for Mrs. Inge will be conducted on Wednesday,
December 19 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian
Simmons and the Rev. Jeaux Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in
Catawba Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends
Tuesday evening, December 18 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral
Home and at other times at the home, 1213 Nathalie Road, Nathalie. For

charity of choice.
