Mrs. Nannie Rutledge Chappell McKinney

Mrs. Nannie Rutledge Chappell McKinney, 92, of 5047 Mountain Road,
Halifax died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born in Halifax County on November 26, 1915, a daughter of the
late Abner Rutledge and Elizabeth Ann Price and was married first to
the late Robert Woodson Chappell and then to the late Harry E.
McKinney.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Horton and husband Larry of
Halifax; three sons, Robert Chappell, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC,
Roderick "Pete" Chappell and wife Nannie Sue of Halifax and Jackie
Chappell and his wife Nancy of Vernon Hill; seven grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one brother,
Albert Rutledge and two sisters, Hazel Perkins and Edith Duffer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 8 at Pleasant Grove
Christian Church with Rev. Billy Coghill and Rev. Ed Melvin
officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be
directed to Pleasant Grove Christian Church or Revelation Baptist
Church.

 

 Mrs. June Rose McCown Robinson
Mrs. June Rose McCown Robinson, 78, of Norfolk died December 4, 2007 at
Depaul Hospital.  She was born in South Boston on August 23, 1929, a
daughter of the late Clarence Preston McCown and Sallie Olivia Coleman
McCown.  She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and First Baptist
Church, Norfolk, a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School,
Fayetteville State University and Virginia State College.  She taught
at Omega School, Washington Coleman Elementary and Norfolk Public
Schools.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynette (Clifford) Rhodes of Norfolk;
her son, James (Marion) Robinson, Jr. of Chesapeake; two sisters,
Vivian McCown (Charles) Thurston of College Park, GA and Florence
McCown (William) Easley, Sr. of Silver Spring, MD; brother, Rev. Dr.
Lowell (Jacqueline) McCown of Horsham, PA; four grandchildren; other
relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Delores
McCown and a brother, Dr. Coleman McCown.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Historic First
Baptist Church, Norfolk, with Rev. Dr. Robert G. Murray officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
 
 Mr. Paul Sinkfield Seamster
Mr. Paul Sinkfield Seamster, 72, of 2561 Lone Pine Road, Burkeville
died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Southside Community Hospital.  He
was born in Halifax County on November 24, 1935, a son of the late John
Tazwell Seamster and Mary Powell Seamster.  He was married to Shirley
Powell Seamster and was a member of Grace Baptist Temple, Blackstone.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Rhonda S.
Golden of Blackstone; one son, Teddy Seamster of Victoria; four
grandchildren, Erica and Austin Golden, Taylor and Lorianne Seamster;
three sisters, Willie Mae Duffey of Saxe, and Mildred Saunders of
Palmyra and Shirley Johnson of Powhatan; one brother; J.T. Seamster of
Crewe.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Donald Jamison officiating.  Burial followed in the
Clover Cemetery.

 

 Mrs. Minnie "Alease" Rice
Mrs. Minnie "Alease" Rice, 68, of South Boston died Friday, December 7,
2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  She was born in Halifax County on
April 4, 1939, a daughter of the late Earnest Eldon Rice and Mary Crews
Rice.  She was married to the late Bernard Epps, the late John Stevens
and the late Ben Rowe and was a Jehovah's Witness.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Epps Turner and husband Carl of
Alton, Mary Epps Sheffield and husband Tim of Halifax; three
grandchildren, Jonathan Edward Turner, Alyssa Paige Turner, Allison
Nicole Sheffield; five brothers, Eldon Rice and wife Josephine of South
Boston, Aubrey Rice and wife Jeanette of Halifax, Earl Rice and wife
Linda and Allen Rice and wife Cathy, all of Cluster Springs, John Rice
and wife Maxine of Wake Forest, NC; several nieces and nephews,
great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by three
children, Bernard Anderson Epps, Jr., Phyllis Alease Epps and Jerry
Dean Epps, one sister, Joyce Boyd and one brother, Curtis Rice.
Graveside services were held Sunday, December 9 at Halifax Memorial
Gardens with Elder Steve Rice officiating.

 

 Mr. Robert Madison Riggan
Mr. Robert Madison Riggan, Sr., 80, widower of Lucille Tuck Riggan died
Thursday, December 6, 2007 at his home.  Native to the Grassy Creek
community, he was retired from J.P. Stevens after 30+ years; and was a
member at Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle.
A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Buffalo Baptist
Tabernacle with interment in the church cemetery.
Surviving Mr. Riggan are his daughter Debra R. Moye and her husband, J,
of Chesapeake; two sons,  Bobby Riggan of Buffalo Junction amd Mark
Riggan and his wife, Lori of Hartland, Wisconsin.  Also surviving are
brothers, William and J.B. Riggan, both of Buffalo Junction; sisters,
Lois Currin of Oxford, Alice Bowen of Nelson and Carrie Atkins of South
Boston; and nine grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by sisters,
Willie Belle Hart and Marie Reebals..  Online condolences may be

 Mr. Quinton Carrington
Mr. Quinton Carrington of Orange, New York, formerly of Halifax County,
died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the age of 85. Born in Halifax
County on October 9, 1922 to the late Mr. Charlie Carrington and Mrs.
Betty Bailey Carrington, he was married to the late Mrs. Mary S. Penick
Carrington. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Carrington is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Marion S. Williams
of Virgilina, Mrs. Clara B. Carrington of  Nathalie, Mrs. Dorothy J.
McGhee and Mrs. Elaine C. Allen, both of Middletown, NY, a son, Mr.
Quinton L. Carrington, Jr. of Somers, CT, two brothers, Mr. Harry J.
Carrington of Nathalie and Mr. Richard Carrington of Suffolk, two
sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Britton of Nathalie and Mrs. Marion Crawley of
Lawnside, NJ, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two
sons-in-law, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and a host of
cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Carrington will be conducted on Tuesday,
December 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the
Rev. James E. Traynham officiating Burial will follow in the church
cemetery with full military rites. The family will receive friends at
the home of Ms. Clara B. Carrington, 2141 Morton Ferry Road, Nathalie.
