Obituaries
Mr. John Isaac Clauden, 71, of Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston
died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was
born in Halifax County on January 1, 1936, a son of the late Mr. Thomas
Clauden and Mrs. Mary Lee Bowman Clauden. He was married to Mrs.
Shirley Tuck Clauden and was a member of Owens Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary
Shirley Williams of South Boston and Mrs. Angela R. Owens of Richmond;
two sons, Rev. Jerome I. Clauden and Mr. Floyd L. Clauden, both of
South Boston; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two
daughters-in-law, Mrs. Carol Clauden and Mrs. Janice Clauden; two
sons-in-law, Mr. William Williams and Mr. Troy Owens, Sr.; four
sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, other relatives and friends. He
was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Frank Clauden, Sr., Mr.
Elroy Clauden and Mr. Floyd Clauden.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Owens Grove Baptist
Church with Rev. John Leigh officiating. Burial will follow in the
church cemetery.
Ms. Gladys Pool Lowery,
Ms. Gladys Pool Lowery, 90, of 1142 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston
died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at The Woodview. She was born July 17,
1917 in Halifax County, a daughter of the late Stephen and Lilly Pool
and was married first to the late Earl Hudson and then to the late
Richard Lowery. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and was a
retired employee of Von's Motel.
She is survived by one daughter, Jimmie H. Rehbock of Orland Park, IL;
one son, Clyde Hudson of Apopka, FL; two sisters, Ruth Ragans and
Delcie Cole, both of South Boston; one brother, John Pool of South
Boston; grandchildren, Michael T. Hudson, Starlet Lynn Riviere, Joey C.
Hammond, Richard Earl McDaniel and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Brooks Funeral
Home with Rev. Larry Wollbrink and Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to
Second Baptist Church.
Mr. John Henry Holt
Mr. John Henry Holt, 74, of 2183 Thompson Store Road, Vernon Hill died
Monday, December 3, 2007. He was born in Halifax County on April 24,
1933, a son of the late Mr. Robert Alexander Holt and Mrs. Sudie Ellen
Goode Holt. He was married to Mrs. Alice Womack and was a member of
New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs.
Margaret Owens, Mrs. Vivian Thomas, Ms. Brenda Stuart Holt and Ms.
Linda Holt, all of Maryland; two sons, Mr. James Holt and Mr. Stacey
Holt, both of Maryland; 18 grandchildren, a host of
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Sudie Venable and Mrs. Martha
Wells, both of Halifax County; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Glendia Holt;
four brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. James Holt and one
sister, Mrs. Virginia Ann Spivey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 8 at 2:00 p.m. at New
Mount Olive Apostolic Church with Rev. Dr. Roger Ford officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive
friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
