Mrs. Lois Tuck Long

Mrs. Lois Tuck Long, 98, of Virgilina died Wednesday, November 14, 2007
at Roxboro Nursing Center.  She was born in Halifax County on December
4, 1908, a daughter of the late W.W. Tuck and Ella Overby Tuck and was
married to the late S. Seams Long.  She was a member of Union Christian
Church, Virgilina Town Council, Virgilina Women’s Fellowship, Virgilina
Women’s Club, Chapter 80 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of
the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the
National League of Postmasters and was a retired Post Mistress.
She is survived by a daughter, Lois Long Strickland and husband Dr.
Robert Stockard of Elon, NC; granddaughters, Catherine Anderson and
husband Dr. Marshall Anderson, Sue Hodge and husband Tim;
great-granddaughters, Jenny Hodge and Caroline Anderson;
great-grandsons, Clay Hodge and Will Anderson, other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18 at Union Christian
church with Rev. Bobby Whitfield officiating.

 

Mrs. Mary Belle Carter Carrington
Mrs. Mary Belle Carter Carrington, 90, formerly of Nathalie, died
November 11, 2007 at Keystone Hospice Center, Wyndmoor, PA. She was
born in Halifax County on February 8, 1917, a daughter of the late Mr.
Henry B. Carter and Mrs. Catherine C. Carter.  She was married to the
late Mr. Charlie M. Carrington and was a member of Ellis Creek Baptist
Church.
She is survived by two sons, Russell (Lena) and Lloyd (Carolyn), all of
North Carolina; three daughters, Yvonne, Jean and Charlesnetta, all of
Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren, other relatives and friends, including
the devoted Mary Davis.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m. at
Ellis Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Featherston officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

 

Mr. Wayne Douglas Bostick
Mr. Wayne Douglas Bostick, 53, formerly of Halifax County, died
November 8, 2007 at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.  He
was born in Halifax County on May 26, 1954, a son of the late Mr. John
Henry Bostick, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Anna Edmonds Bostick.  He was a member
of Heart Church Ministries, Temple Hills, MD and was employed with the
Navy Department and the Miller & Long Company.
He is survived by one daughter, Ms. Irene McRae of Durham, NC; three
sons, Mr. Julius D'wayne Bostick, Mr. Corde Christopher Bostick and Mr.
Joseph Lamar Bostick, all Washington, DC; one brother, Mr. John Henry
Bostick, Jr.; three sisters, Mrs. Betty Allen, Mrs. Sarah Cross and Ms.
Ida Bostick; granddaughter, Ms. Nyla McRae; one sister-in-law, Mrs.
Victoria Bostick; his fiancee, Ms. Regina Henry, other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Heart Church
Ministries, Temple Hills, MD.  Graveside services will be Tuesday,
November 20 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul C.M.E. Church Cemetery, Halifax,
with Rev. Yvonne Bush officiating.

 

Ms. Teresa "Tweety" E. Coleman
Ms. Teresa "Tweety" E. Coleman, 33, of South Boston died November 12,
2007 at her home.  She was born in Halifax County on January 8, 1974, a
daughter of Ms. Ella Coleman and the late Mr. Ernest Edward Coleman.
She was a member of Spanish Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Mr. Christian
Coleman of South Boston; one sister, Ms. Tonya Mitchell of South
Boston; her Godmother, Mrs. Beatrice Canada; one Godson, Mr. Traquan
Holt; two devoted friends, Mr. Terry Marable and Mrs. Felicia
Throckmorton, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18 at Spanish Grove Baptist
Church with Rev. Ronnie Womack officiating.  Burial followed in the
church cemetery.

 

Mrs. Luellen Lovelace Owen
Mrs. Luellen Lovelace Owen, 94, of Halifax died Thursday, November 15,
2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  She was born in Pittsylvania County
on April 16, 1913, a daughter of the late L. Rosser Lovelace and Mary
Williams Lovelace and was married to the late Norman Owen.  She spent
her early years in the Lynchburg area before a move to Halifax in 1947.
  She was an active member of Beth Car Baptist Church until a few weeks
before her death. She also wrote community news for the News & Record.
She is survived by one son, N. Ray Owen and wife Carol Bane of Vernon
Hill; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara O. and Thomas E.
Shepherd of Halifax, Cynthia O. and Ralph E. (Gene) Haugh of Halifax,
Gail O. and C. William Waechter, Jr. of Richmond; seven grandchildren,
Ramona Shepherd Hollingshead and husband Andrew and sons Seth and Drew, C. William Waechter, III and wife Shea and children Julia Palmer and
Will, John M. Waechter and wife Sara and daughter Mary Page,
Christopher W. Owen and wife Dana and children Harley and Brent,
William E. Cooper, III and wife Jennifer and sons Smith and Harrison,
Randolph L. Haugh, William C. Haugh; one sister, Geraldine L. Schmidt
Dix of Halifax; one sister-in-law, Marie O. Nester of Morganton, NC.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise L. Mitchell and Adel
L. Markham and two brothers, L.R. Lovelace, Jr. and Harold L. Lovelace.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18 at Beth Car Baptist
Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Parnell and Rev. Ed Riggs officiating.
Burial followed in Kedron Baptist Church Cemetery, Gladys.  Memorials
may be directed to the Building Fund at Beth Car Baptist Church, 25

Mr. George Louis Womack
Mr. George Louis Womack, 78, of 2081 Blue Rock Road, Vernon Hill died
Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born
in Halifax County on May 19, 1929, a son of the late Shelly B. Womack
and Elizabeth Moore Womack.
He is survived by a brother, Wm. Randolph Womack and wife Bertha L. of
Vernon Hill; sisters, Hilda W. Watts and husband Richard of Smithfield,
NC, Margaret W. Crenshaw of South Boston, Shirley W. Hastings of
Scottsburg, Frances W. Hughes and husband Eddie of Brookneal, Geneva W.
Bates and husband Charles III of Vernon Hill; nine nieces and 10
nephews.  He was preceded in death by sisters, Florine W. Vaughan and
Barbara W. Weatherford, a brother Berkley B. Womack and nephew, Charles
A. Bates, IV.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18 at Asbury United
Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Simmons officiating.  Burial followed
in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Asbury United
Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

 

Mrs. Linnie Lou Tuck
Mrs. Linnie Lou Tuck of Scottsburg died Friday, November 16, 2007 at
Berry Hill Nursing Home. Born in Halifax County on October 4, 1922, she
was 85 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Pete
Tuck and Lottie Powell Tuck and was a member of the Mt. Laurel United
Methodist Church.
Mrs. Tuck is survived by a daughter, Corinne Perkins of South Boston
and two sisters, Nettie Snead of Scottsburg and Florence Newcomb of
Clover, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mrs. Tuck will be conducted on Monday, November
19 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William
Coghill officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Laurel United
Methodist Church cemetery.

 

Mrs. Mary C. Ramsey
Mrs. Mary C. Ramsey, 88, of South Boston, formerly of Chase City, died
Saturday, November 17, 2007. Born Mary Elizabeth Collis in Chase City
on August 27, 1919, the youngest of five children to the late James
Charlie Collis and Effie Thomas Collis, she was married to the late
Emmett H. Ramsey, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ramsey is survived by three sons, Ronald Ramsey and wife, Marie of
South Boston, Charles Ramsey and wife, Diana of Chase City, and Graham
Ramsey and wife, Teresa of Crozet. Also surviving are five
grandchildren, Matthew Ramsey of Lewisville, NC, Patricia Ramsey Smith
of Toano, Kathryn Ramsey of Richmond and Carter Ramsey and Katie
Ramsey, both of Crozet. Another grandson, Captain Jason Ramsey, U.S. A.
F. predeceased her. Mrs. Ramsey also leaves three great grandchildren,
Madison, Benjamin and Zachary Ramsey, all of Lewisville, NC.
A 1936 graduate of Chase City High School, Mrs. Ramsey furthered her
education at nursing school, becoming a registered nurse through
Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond. She worked for many years as a
public health nurse in both Mecklenburg and Halifax Counties. While
living in Chase City, she was an active member of The Eastern Star and
Black Branch Baptist Church where she served in the choir.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Monday evening
at Wood Funeral Service, Chase City and at all other times at the home
of Charles Ramsey on Walker Street in Chase City. Services will be held
at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gene Burris
officiating. Interment will follow in Black Branch Baptist Church
cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial
contributions be made to the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation,
P. O. Box 1398, Brookneal, VA 24528 or to the American Diabetes
Association, Suite 200, 530 E. Main Street, Richmond, VA 2219.
