Mrs. Elmira Cousin Williams Little
Mrs. Elmira Cousin Williams Little, 77, of New York, formerly of
Halifax County, died November 7, 2007.  She is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Mack; three sons, Mr. Daniel Williams, Mr.
David Williams and Mr. Freddie Williams; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Guthrie
of Nathalie and Mrs. Narissie Robinson of New York; two brothers, Mr.
Murel Cousin of Danville and Mr. Ezikel Cousin of Ervington, NC.  She
was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mrs. Irene Hunt Cousin
and Mr. James Edward Cousin, Sr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 14 at Mt. Nebo Baptist
Church, New York.
 
Miss Olivian Hubbard
Miss Olivian Hubbard, 67, of Chase City entered eternal rest Saturday,
November 10, 2007 at Chase City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center,
Chase City. Miss Hubbard was born in Halifax County, January 12, 1940
to the late Chris and Hattie Bell Wilson Hubbard. She graduated from
Mary Bethune Training School and furthered her education by attended
beauty college.  She was a beautician for 40 years.  At an early age
she professed Christ and became a member of New Hope CME Church, Clays
Mill, after moving to Newark, NJ she united with Emanuel Church of
Christ Disciples.
Cherishing her memories are one sister, Mrs. Christine Hudley (Alvin)
of Chase City; one brother, Leroy Hubbard (Lillie Hubbard) of Red Oak;
four nieces, Kenyette Adams, Terri Ore, Tonia Person and Candice
Phillips; four nephews, Anthony Mosley, Christopher Hubbard, Benjamin
Ore and Nicholas Davis; goddaughter, Candice Anderson; and a vast
number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services for Miss Olivian Hubbard will be conducted at 2:00
p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Saint Level Baptist Church,
Clarksville with Rev. Toney Smith, officiating. Burial will follow in
the church cemetery.

Mr. Jason Allen Phelps
Mr. Jason Allen Phelps, 24, of 1178 Hall's Trail, Halifax died Monday,
November 12, 2007 at his home.  He was born in Fredericksburg on
December 27, 1982, a son of the late George Allen Phelps and Rebecca
Briscoe Phelps and was married to Cristal Beard Phelps.  He was a
member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church and was a carpenter with
Adams Custom Cabinets.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Shane Matthew Phelps
of Halifax; maternal grandmother, Gladys W. Briscoe of Vernon Hill; one
sister, Amber D. Phelps of Spotsylvania; a brother, Kyle M. Phelps of
Halifax; his guardians, Joe and Sharon Briscoe of Vernon Hill.  He was
preceded in death by his grandfather, Joe Buck Briscoe.
Memorial services were held at Grace Baptist Church on Wednesday,
November 14.  Memorials may be directed to the Halifax County Cancer
Association, P.O. Box 875, South Boston, VA 24592.
 
Ms. Deborah Clay Wilmoth
Ms. Deborah Clay Wilmoth, 46, of 5171 J.D. Hagood Highway, Scottsburg
died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Lynchburg General Hospital.  She was
born in South Boston on September 19, 1961, a daughter of Phyllis
Dobbins Clay and the late Douglas Thomas Clay, Sr.  She was a member of
Centerville Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Melanie W.
Chappell and husband Henry L. of Vernon Hill; one brother, Mark Clay of
South Boston; and two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Chappell and Ashlyn
Chappell, both of Halifax.  She was preceded in death by one sister,
Marsha L. Clay and one brother, Douglas T. "Tommy" Clay, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m. at
Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Rudman officiating.  Burial
will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive
friends tonight from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.  Memorials
may be directed to the Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875,
South Boston, VA 24592.

 

Mrs. Sturee Wright Palmer
Mrs. Sturee Wright Palmer, formerly of Clover, died November 13, 2007
at Bradford Oaks Nursing Home in Clinton, MD at the age of 89. Born in
Halifax County on September 6, 1918, she was the daughter of the late
Mr. George Wright and Mrs. Bessie Freeman Wright. She was married to
the late Mr. William Ausker Palmer and was a member of Sunflower
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by one son, Mr. William H. Palmer of Fort
Washington, MD, a daughter Mrs. Ann Randall of Boston, MA, several
grandchildren and great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Brenda
Palmer of Fort Washington, MD, a son-in-law, Mr. Roy Randall of Boston,
MA a sister-in-law, Mrs. Phyllis Palmer of Tea Neck, NJ and a host of
other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Palmer will be conducted on Friday, November
16 at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. William
A. Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The
family will receive friends at the church on Friday.

 

Mr. Willie Lanell Harris
Mr. Willie Lanell Harris of 1615 Elliott Avenue, South Boston died
Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the age of 52. Born in Halifax County on
April 29, 1955 to Mr. Willie Donald Harris and Mrs. Christine Tuck
Harris, he was married to Mrs. Claudette Bowman Harris and was a member
of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Mrs. Claudette Harris of the home,
two daughters, Ms. Kimberly Harris of Virginia Beach and Ms. Stephanie
Harris of Clover, his father and mother of South Boston, five brothers,
Mr. Robert D. Harris of Midlothian, Mr. Oveda Harris, Mr. Kenneth
Harris, Mr. Jessie Harris and Mr. Garland Harris, all of South Boston,
a sister, Ms. Sandra Harris of South Boston, three grandchildren, his
grandmother, Mrs. Alease Tuck of South Boston, four sisters-in-law,
three brothers-in-law, an aunt, two uncles, three devoted friends, Mr.
Clyde Lindsey, Mr. Elmo Coleman and Mr. Daniel Crawley, all of South
Boston and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Texas Harris and
Mr. Bobby D. Harris.
A funeral service for Mr. Harris will be conducted Friday, November 16
at 2 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. John Leigh
officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will
receive friends at the home, 1615 Elliott Avenue, South Boston.
