Mrs. Ollie Crowder Walton

Mrs. Ollie Crowder Walton of 1146 Horse Shoe Trail, Alton died Friday,
November 9 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 84. Born in
Halifax County on July 22, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Mr.
Millous Thomas Crowder and Mrs. Mary Harris Crowder. She was married to
Mr. James Lee Walton and was a member of New Life Baptist Church. Mrs.
Walton was a retired employee of Halifax County Public Schools.
Mrs. Walton is survived by her husband of the home, five daughters,
Ms. Gertie Link of Detroit, MI, Mrs. Alease Leigh, Mrs. Vernell Bruce
and Mrs. Patricia Chandler, all of South Boston and Mrs. Sandra Davis
of Halifax, five sons, Mr. James Louis Walton, Mr. James Louis Walton
and Mr. William Henry Walton, all of South Boston, Mr. Millous Jerome
Walton of Halifax and Mr. Kenneth Lee Walton of Scottsburg, 31
grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Also surviving are four
sons-in-law, four daughters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends. Mrs. Walton was preceded in death by three
brothers, Mr. Thomas Crowder, Mr. Isom Crowder and Mr. John Crowder and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Bailey. A funeral service for Mrs. Walton will be conducted on Tuesday, November 13 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul CME Church in Halifax with the Rev. Norman Crowder officiating. Burial will follow in the Walton Family cemetery in Alton. The family will be receiving friends at the home, 1146 Horse Shoe Trail, Alton.
 
 
Mr. Linzie M. Moorman
Mr. Linzie M. Moorman of Lennig Road, Nathalie died Saturday, November
10, 2007 in Hampton at the age of 86. Born in Halifax County on May 5,
1921, he was the son of the late Mr. Tommy Moorman and Mrs. Annie
Hodges Moorman. He was married to Mrs. Blanche Brown Moorman and was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church.
Mr. Moorman is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Adell M.
Barksdale of Zebulon, NC, Mrs. Inez M. Trueheart of Hampton and Mrs.
Alice M. Perdue of Newport News, a son, Mr. Willie Moorman of Nathalie,
a sister, Mrs. Velmus Cousins of Albany, NY, a brother, Mr. John E.
Moorman of Crystal Hill, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren,
three sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Moorman will be held Wednesday, November 14
at 1 p.m. at Sunflower Baptist Church in Nathalie with Rev. Robert M.
Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The
family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 7 p.m. at
the Crawford House Chapel in Halifax and at all other times at the
home, 1049 Lennig Road, Nathalie.
 
Mr. Henry Clyde Owen, Sr.
Mr. Henry Clyde Owen, Sr. of Scottsburg died Saturday, November 10,
2007 at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg. Born November 22, 1937
in Halifax County, he was 69 at the time of his death. He was the son
of the late John T. Owen, Sr. and Jennie Canada Owen and was married to
the late Judy Chandler Owen. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist
Church and was retired from Burlington Industries.
Mr. Owen is survived by two sons, Dean Edward Owen and wife, Janet of
Forest and Henry Clyde Owen, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Chatham, three
sisters, Rosa O. Powell of South Boston, Ruby O. Watts of Charlotte, NC
and Jeanette O. Ligon of Scottsburg, a brother, Earl D. Owen of South
Boston and seven grandchildren, Madison Chandler Owen, Joshua Coris
Owen and Kathirynn Paige Owen, all of Forest, Grant Chandler Owen,
Caleb Carver Owen, Jacob Cameron Owen and Lucas Bailey Owen, all of
Chatham.
A funeral service for Mr. Owen will be held at Powell Funeral Home
Chapel on Tuesday, November 13 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daryl Hancock
officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery,
Scottsburg. Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home on Monday
from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at his home, 5100 JD Hagood

Mrs. Nancy Jean Fariss Burkhart
Mrs. Nancy Jean Fariss Burkhart, 55, of 1329 Willingham Street, South
Boston died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late Jack Fariss and
Virginia Heckman Fariss and was married to David D. Burkhart.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Lori
Ann Wolfe of Breman, OH, Faith L. Giglio of Pittsburgh, PA and Sara M.
Burkhart of South Boston; two sisters, Sharon Mankins of Kingsport,
WVA, Elaine Pisula of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Gary Fariss of
Minneapolis, MN and Michael Fariss of Pittsburgh, PA; and eight
grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Friday, November 9 at Powell Funeral Home
with Andy Lowery officiating.
 
 
Mr. Charles Grammer Sadler,
Mr. Charles Grammer Sadler, 71, of 1906 Norwood Avenue, South Boston
died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was
born in Clover on July 17, 1936, a son of the late Charlie Mott Sadler
and Julia Edmondson Sadler and was married to the late Joan Conner
Sadler.  He was a member of Clover United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lynn Sadler McKinney and husband
Johnny and Mrs. Patricia Sadler Chappell and husband Kelly, all of
Halifax; two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Sadler Gibson of Richmond and Mrs.
Jane Sadler Baynes of Clover; his life partner, Ms. Rita H. Smith of
South Boston; four grandchildren, Sarah Laughorn, Johnny McKinney II,
Jared McKinney and Lance Chappell.  He was preceded in death by one
brother, Frank Sadler and one sister, Rose Sadler Wilson.
A funeral service was held Saturday, November 10 at Powell Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.  Burial followed in Halifax
Memorial Gardens.  Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes

Mr. Raymond Wooding Griffin
Mr. Raymond Wooding Griffin, 83, husband of Ruby Green Griffin, died
Tuesday, November 7, 2007 at MeadowView Terrace, Clarksville. He was
the son of the late Taylor Floyd and Willie Glasscock Griffin, was a
graduate of Clarksville High School, a World War II Army veteran.  He
was recipient of a Purple Heart and worked with BB&T, was a member of
Clarksville Baptist Church, former member of the Rotary, Lion's Club
and American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Caroline
Fletcher McDonough of GA; grandson, Chase Tyler Fletcher; sisters,
Glenna Nunn of Clarksville and Jean Daniel and Helen Blanks, both of
Buffalo Junction.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Gravel Hill Cemetery with Rev.
Joshua Hearne officiating.
 
 
Mrs. Augusta Wade Scott,
Mrs. Augusta Wade Scott, 83, of 2048 Green Valley Road, Clover died
Thursday, November 8, 2007 at her home.  She was born August 20, 1924,
a daughter of the late Freddie Wade and Mary Hazelwood Wade and was
married to William Arthur Scott, Sr.  She was a member of Mt. Laurel
United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, William A.
Scott, Jr. and wife Judy of South Boston; one brother, Lewis Wade of
Clover; one step-son, Butch Scott and wife Jane of Chase City;
granddaughter, Angela Scott Abdi, grandsons, Jonathan Matthew "Matt"
Scott, Jimmy Scott and Steven Scott and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Saturday, November 10 at Mt. Laurel United
Methodist Church with Rev. Don Pizzeck officiating.  Burial followed in
Clover Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Halifax Regional

 Mr. Michael Charles Durling
Mr. Michael Charles Durling of 3055 Bellvue Road, Halifax died Friday,
November 9, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born September 8, 1977
in Attleboro, MA, he was 30 at the time of his death. He was employed
in maintenance by the Halifax Country Club.
Mr. Durling is survived by seven sisters, Kelley J. Durling of East
Bridgewater, MA, Kerrie L. Durling L. of Halifax, Melinda Durling of
North Attleboro, MA, Melissa Durling Norris of Eden, NC, Kendra Durling
of South Boston, Kimberly Durling of Mansfield, MA and Marcy Durling of
South Boston, his maternal grandmother, Ethel Collins of Wareham, MA
and his paternal grandmother, Helen Ingraham of Crystal River, FL, five
nieces, Nikole Platt, Rachyle Murray, Allie Merrill, Kayla Walker and
Kloey Perry and two nephews, Darryle Murray and Derek Merrill. He was
predeceased by his parents, Charles William Durling, Jr. and Linda Lee
Collins Durling and his beloved dog, Dutch.
Visitation for Mr. Durling will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on
Monday, November 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. and at other times at the home of
his sister, Kendra Durling.
