Mrs. Kelly Michelle Crews Dease

Mrs. Kelly Michelle Crews Dease of 3115 Bethel Road, Halifax died
Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Scottsburg. She was born in Lynchburg on
July 5, 1979 and was 28 years of age. She was the daughter of Kenneth
Crews and Alice Hiner Higginbotham and was married to Todd Dease. She
was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Dease is survived by her husband of the home, six children,
Mackenzie Mason, Elizabeth Dease, Rebekah Dease, Blake Dease, Jacob
Dease and Alicia Dease and her parents.  Also surviving are her mother
and father-in-law, Cheri and Paul Dease of Halifax, a sister, Brittany
Higginbothan of Arlington, TX and three brothers, Nicholas Higginbothan
of Altavista and Ryan and Hunter Crews, both of Gretna.
A funeral service for Mrs. Dease was held on Sunday, November 4 at 4
p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Weiser
officiating. For memorials please consider the Halifax County Rescue
Squad, P. O. Box 183, South Boston, Va. 24592 or a rescue squad of your
choice or the Dolphin Research Center, 58901 Overseas Highway, Grassy
Key, FL 33050-6019.

 

Mrs. Jean Harlow Powell Shelton
Mrs. Jean Harlow Powell Shelton, 68, of 2245 Clays Mill School Road,
Scottsburg died Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at her home.  She was born
in Halifax County on July 25, 1939, a daughter of the late Leonard
Calvin Powell and Molly Alice Powell and was married to Beauford
Shelton.  She was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Wayne Francisco
of Ringgold; two daughters, Sheena Powell of Danville and Sandra
McCormick and husband Danny of Scottsburg; 11 grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren; four brothers, Hugh Preston Powell of Appomattox,
William Danny Powell of Clover, Leonard Edward Powell of Scottsburg and
Jimmy Dion Powell of Nathalie; three sisters, Jessie Jones of Danville,
Dale Hamilton and husband Melvin of Brookneal, Jannie Walker and
husband Paul of Alton.  She was preceded in death by one daughter,
Glenda Francisco Odum.
Graveside services were held Friday, November 2 at the McCormick Family
Cemetery, Clays Mill, with Rev. Don Bryant officiating.  Memorials may
be directed to the Hunting Creek Baptist Church, 4041 Hunting Creek
Road, Nathalie, VA 24577.
 
Mrs. Gladys Tate Satterfield
Mrs. Gladys Tate Satterfield, 82, of 103 Rosehill Drive, South Boston
died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at The Woodview.  She was born in
Pittsylvania County on January 5, 1925, daughter of the late Thomas
Jefferson Tate and Nellie Tate Terry and was married to the late Edward
Linwood Satterfield.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Church
of Christ and the Woodmen of the World.
She is survived by one son, Danny Satterfield of Halifax.
Graveside services were held Saturday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m. at
Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ Cemetery with Rev. Bill Wilkins
officiating.
 
Mr. Arthur Elmer McCurry
Mr. Arthur Elmer McCurry, 86, of 2065 Cherry Creek Road, Nathalie died
Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Salem VA Hospital.  He was born in
Johnson City, TN on March 22, 1921, a son of the late Doss McCurry and
Mae Carter McCurry and was married to Sylvia W. McCurry.  He attended
Church of God, was a member of VFW Post 2108 in Johnson City, TN and
the Disabled Veteran HQ, Johnson City, TN.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Nicky McCurry and
wife Janice of Ashland, OH; one daughter, Maxine Carroll of Johnson
City, TN; three step-daughters, Wynona Childress and husband Tim of
Hurt, Shawna Krohn and husband Mark of Vancleave, MS, Emma Layne and
husband Russell of Nathalie; one brother, Jack McCurry of Abington, IL;
one sister, Thelma Hoss of Kington, TN; eight grandchildren, two
step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death
by two sisters, Pearl Nunnly and Jewel Teague, one brother, Roy McCurry
and one step-son, Taza Compton.
Graveside services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Black Walnut
Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Whitlow officiating.  Memorials
may be directed to the Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875,
South Boston, VA 24592, Parkinson's Research or a charity of your
choice.
 
Mrs. Opal Louise Shupe Nethercutt
Mrs. Opal Louise Shupe Nethercutt, 84, of 5050 Chestnut Road, Nathalie
died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at The Woodview.  She was born in
Mountain City, TN July 12, 1923, a daughter of the late Charles Oscar
Shupe and Mary Ethie Shupe and was married to the late Raymond Edward
Nethercutt, Sr.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Republican
Grove.
She is survived by one son, Raymond Edward Nethercutt, Jr. and wife
Margaret of Nathalie; three sisters, Pauline S. Dancey of Mountain
City, TN, Shirley S. Ward and husband John of Winston-Salem, NC, Vivian
S. Stewart of Maryland; one brother, Doran Shupe of Mountain City, TN;
her mother-in-law, Mollie Mae Barrow of North Carolina; three
sisters-in-law, Kate Shupe, Dorothy Faulkner and Helen Stancil.  She
was preceded in death by two sisters, Flora Payne and Jean Stanley and
three brothers, Dwight, Kenneth and Aubrey Shupe.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 4 at First Baptist Church
of Republican Grove with Rev. Shelton Miles, III officiating.  Burial
followed in the church cemetery.

 

Mr. Jason Linwood Overstreet
Mr. Jason Linwood Overstreet of Halifax died Friday, November 2, 2007
at the Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Charlotte County on December
8, 1935, he was 71 at the time of his death. He was the son of the late
Ulrich Overstreet and the late Mildred Blanks Overstreet.
Mr. Overstreet is survived by four sisters, Charlotte Brooks and
Barbara Dechaine, both of Virginia Beach, Eunice Barthlow and Marion
Mothershed, both of Baltimore, MD and a brother, Elton Overstreet, also
of Baltimore, MD and a special nephew, Steve Davis and wife, Teresa of
Halifax. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Huff and Ruth
Davis and two brothers, U. R. Overstreet and Junior Overstreet.
A funeral service for Mr. Overstreet will be conducted today at 2 p.m.
at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Barwick officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church cemetery in
Charlotte County. For memorials please consider the Halifax County
