Mr. Michael Ray Ingram
Mr. Michael Ray Ingram, 50, of 1195 Hunting Creek Road, Nathalie died
Sunday, October 21, 2007.  He was born in Halifax County on September
12, 1957, a son of Johnny W. Ingram and Pauline Newby.  He was a United
States Marine Corp Veteran.
He is survived by two daughters, Crystal and Kristie Ingram of Florida;
his father, Johnny "Pete" Ingram and wife Virginia of Vernon Hill; one
sister, Sharon Hughes and husband Alan of Union Hall; two half
brothers, Timothy  Jefferson and Tonny Jefferson of Wirtz; five
grandchildren and one nephew and five nieces.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 24 at Halifax Memorial
Gardens with Rev. Don Bryant officiating.
Mr. Eddie Johnson
Mr. Eddie Johnson, Jr., 70, of 101 Hedgerow Drive, Halifax died
Saturday, October 20, 2007 at his home.  He was born in Tuskegee, AL on
August 27, 1937, a son of the late Mr. Eddie Johnson, Sr. and Mrs.
Gustava Pearsall Johnson.  He was married to Mrs. Joan Marable Johnson
and was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Ferry Street.  He was a
retired employee of West Chester Medical Center, NY.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Regina
Diane Wells of Kissimmee, FL; two sons, Mr. Jimmy Calhoun of Peekskill,
NY and Mr. David Calhoun of Lakeland, FL; one sister, Mrs. Annie
Edwards of Margaretsville, NC; one brother, Mr. Ocie Johnson of
Natchitoches, LA; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two
sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist
Church, Ferry Street with Rev. Wallace Pierce officiating.  Burial will
follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Lisa Culley Newby
Mrs. Lisa Culley Newby, 38, of Chatham Road, Halifax died October 23,
2007 at Duke University Hospital.  She was born in Halifax County on
April 3, 1969, a daughter of Larry James Culley and Diana Phillips
Culley and was married to Charles Allen Newby.  She was a member of
Bethel Baptist Church and was employed as an Emergency Room nurse at
Halifax Regional Hospital.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her
daughter, Haley A. Newby and son, Charles A. Newby, Jr., both of
Halifax; her father-in-law, Harold A. Newby of Bullock, NC; her
mother-in-law, Lonie Hite of Buffalo Junction; and one sister, Cheryl
Culley Wilkerson of Scottsburg.  She was preceded in death by her twin
sister, Lori Anne Culley.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist
Church with Rev. Bob Rudman officiating.  Burial will follow in the
church cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Halifax County
Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875, South Boston, VA 24592.
 
Mrs. Eunice Lovelace Crews
Mrs. Eunice Lovelace Crews, 76, of 2000 Meadville Road, Halifax died
Friday, October 19, 2007 at her home.  She was born in Halifax County
on March 27, 1931, a daughter of the late Mr. Herman Crews and Ms.
Louise Lovelace and was married to the late Mr. Burrell Crews.  She was
a member of Millstone Baptist Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Barbara Tucker of Nathalie, Ms.
Rosa Crews of Halifax, Ms. Mary Crews of the home and Mrs. Susan
Ferrell of Washington, DC; four sons, Mr. Burrell Crews of Woodbridge,
Mr. Henry Crews of Sanford, NC, Mr. Nelson Pannell of Baltimore, MD and
Mr. Thomas Crews of Halifax; one sister, Ms. JoAnn Crews of Brookneal;
one brother, Mr. Herman Crews of Maryland; 23 grandchildren, 39
great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, other relatives
and friends.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Mr. Wayne Pannell
and Mr. Lawrence Pannell, one grandson, Mr. Anthony Crews and one
sister, Mrs. Mary Alice Lovelace Cook.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. at
Millstone Baptist Church with Rev. Chester L. Spruill officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive
friends at the home, 2000 Meadville Road.
 
Mr. Nephew Ralph Staten
Mr. Nephew Ralph Staten, Jr., 88, of Clover died Tuesday, October 23,
2007 at his home.  He was born in Halifax County on March 18, 1919, a
son of the late Mr. Nephew Ralph Staten, Sr. and Mrs. Nannie Palmer
Staten.  He was married to Mrs. Alice Carden Staten and was a deacon at
Zion Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Vivian
Staten Collins of Oakland, CA, Mrs. Rosa Perkins of Newport News, Mrs.
Odessa Crews and Mrs. Faye Staten-Brown, both of Temple Hills, MD, Mrs.
Mable Haddock and Ms. Brenda Staten, both of New York, NY; two sons,
Mr. Ralph L. Staten, Sr. of South Boston and Mr. James C. Staten of
Richmond; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law,
Mr. Sanford Collins and Mr. Leon Brown; one daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Vealer Staten; devoted niece, Mrs. Elnora Eubanks; devoted caregiver,
Mrs. Sandra Fawcette, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in
death by one son, Mr. William Staten, a sister, Mrs. Ethel Wylie and
one brother, Mr. Emmett Staten, Sr.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. at
Zion Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jefferson Goode officiating. Burial
will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at
the home, 4064 Hwy. 92, Clover.

 

Mrs. Irene Cook Lathan
Mrs. Irene Cook Lathan of South Boston died Tuesday, October 23, 2007
at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Red Oak on October 20, 1916, she
was 91 at the time of her death.  She was the daughter of the late
Walter Belt Cook and Mamie Elizabeth Whitlow Cook and was married to
the late John Wesley Latham. She was a member of First Baptist Church
of South Boston.
Mrs. Latham is survived by a daughter, Ellen L. Roman and husband,
David of Raleigh, NC and one son, Sam Wesley Latham of Sacramento, CA,
eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving is a
sister, Ellen Sheffield of Leesburg. She was preceded in death by a
son, John Randolph Latham, a sister, Mae C. Bartels and three brothers,
Carroll Watkins Cook, Walter Belt Cook and Maphis Cook.
A graveside service for Mrs. Latham will be conducted Saturday, October
27 at 11 a.m. at the Clover Cemetery with her nephew, the Rev. Dana
Cook officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 until
8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
Ms. Ella Love Mosley
Ms. Ella Love Mosley of Mountain Road, Halifax died Tuesday, October
23, 2007 at South Boston Manor at the age of 68, Born in Halifax County
on March 2, 1939, she was the daughter of Mrs. Hester Kirby Mosley and
the late Mr. James Arthur Mosley. She was a member of Union Grove CME
Church and was a retired employee of Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Mosley is survived by her mother, Mrs. Hester K. Mosley of
Halifax, three sisters, Mrs. Corine Hubbard of Halifax and Mrs. Elnora
Mayo and Mrs. Nancy Johnson, both of South Boston, four brothers, Mr.
Jessie Mosley, Mr. Carter Mosley and Mr. Ray C. Mosley, all of South
Boston and Mr. Robert Lee Mosley of Halifax and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Ms. Mosley will be conducted on Sunday, October
28 at 2 p.m. with services at Union Grove CME Church with the Rev.
Larry B. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home, 4100 Mountain Road,
Halifax.
