George Graham Lancaster Jr.
George Graham Lancaster Jr.
A graveside service was held Saturday at Grace Church Cemetery for George
Graham Lancaster Jr. of Doylestown, Penn. Mr. Lancaster, 78, died Tuesday,
October 16, in Waterford, Mich. He was born in Richmond on August 29,
1929, a son of the late George Graham Lancaster and Virginia Coleman
Lancaster and was married to Amy Priestley Sadler Lancaster, who survives.
Mr. Lancaster was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a graduate of Virginia
Military Institute in Lexington. He worked for Link Belt/FMC for 35 years
and Carroll Engineering for 10 years. In addition to his wife, Mr.
Lancaster is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth L. Shugart, one son, G.
Graham Lancaster, one sister, Virginia Cary Lancaster McDonald, and five
grandchildren, Zachary D. Shugart, G. Griffith Lancaster, Ashley E.
Shugart, G. Gavin Lancaster and G. Grayson Lancaster. He was preceded in
death by one brother, Coleman Harrison Lancaster.
James Henry Bowes
James Henry Bowes, 69, of Harmony Road, Alton, died Friday, Oct. 19 at his
home. He was born May 12, 1938, in Person County, N.C., the son of the
late Golden C. Bowes Sr. and the late Jenny Vicks Bowes.
He was married to Sara Whiteman Bowes. Mr. Bowes was a Navy veteran,
co-owner of Bowes & Bowes, Inc., and was a member of Bethel Hill Baptist
Church where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of Alton Hunting
Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Becky B.
Grover and husband Rick of Waxhaw, N.C., and Marie B. Trincia of
Bradenton, Fl.; one son, Gregory A. Bowes of Florida; two brothers, Jesse
C. Bowes and wife Shirley of Roxboro, N.C., and Golden C. Bowes Jr. and
wife Helen of Alton; one sister, Margie B. Wilburn of Brentwood, Tn.; and
three grandchildren, Allyson P. Ashby, Madison L. Ashby and Glen Trincia
Jr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters,
Lessie Bowes, Edith Bowes, Doris B. Smith, Ellen B. Hall and Mary Alice
Bowes, and one brother Roy E. Bowes.
A funeral for Mr. Bowes was held Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Bill
Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery.

Frances Rose Everett
Frances Rose Everett
A funeral for Mrs. Frances Rose Everett of Halifax will be held Tuesday at
2 p.m. at the South Boston Church of God with the Rev. Bruce Hagy and the
Rev. Tim Nuckles conducting the service. Burial will follow in Halifax
Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Everett, 63, died Saturday, Oct. 20, at Durham
Regional Hospital. She was born October 20, 1944, in Baltimore, Md., a
daughter of the late Joseph Bernie Gray and the late Lilly Rose Prather
Gray.
Mrs. Everett was a member of the South Boston Church of God.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandy Sanders and husband Todd of
Danville, one son, Carl Newton and wife Melissa of Halifax, and five
grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan, Lynley and Jamison Sanders of Danville
and Brianna Newton of Halifax, four brothers and one sister.
The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 22, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at
the South Boston Church of God and other times at the home, 1079 West Oak

Linwood Chappell
Linwood Chappell
Funeral services were held yesterday for Linwood Chappell of Ball Park
Loop, Halifax. Mr. Chappell died Oct. 18 at Halifax Regional Hospital at
the age of 73. He was born in Halifax County on Oct. 9, 1934, to the
late James Chappell and Jenny Sue Boxley Chappell and was married to
Millie Clark Chappell. Mr. Chappell was a member of Kingdom Hall of
Jehovah’s Witnesses. Mr. Chappell is survived by his wife of the home;
three sons, Byron Leon Chappell of Jacksonville, Fl., Linwood Thomas
Chappell of South Boston and LeDon Clark Chappell of Clover; two
daughters, Teresa C. Harris of South Boston and Debra Lee Mayo of Halifax;
two brothers, James Earl Chappell of South Boston and Harold Davis
Chappell of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Charlotte O. Richardson,
Hattie Holmes and Dorothea Stovall, all of Baltimore, Md.; one son-in-law,
Rodney Mayo of Halifax; three daughters-in-law, Julie G. Chappell of
Jacksonville, Fl., Darlene C. Chappell of South Boston and Marne Chappell
of Clover; two sisters-in-law, Mary Chappell of Washington, D.C., and
Catherine C. Barksdale of Virgilina; eight grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by two brothers, Clayton Chappell and Thomas A. Chappell.
The funeral service was held at 4:30 p.m. yesterday at Kingdom Hall of
Jehovah’s Witnesses with Br. Phillip Lewis officiating. Burial followed in
Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family is receiving friends at the residence, 4118
Ball Park Loop, Halifax.
