Mrs. Doris Elam Washington

Mrs. Doris Elam Washington of 1000 East Bishop Drive, Apartment 331,
South Boston died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Born in Chase City on June 12, 1948, she was 58 at the time of her
death.
Mrs. Washington is survived by a son, Maurice Washington and his loving
fiance, Teresa Lyons of South Boston, a daughter, Tracey Lovette
Washington of Camden, NJ,and seven grandchildren, five of whom she
raised, Tiffany Alexander, Shawn and Jamar Washington, Aaron Braxton
and Maurice Williams.
Also surviving are two brothers, Ray Elam of Newport News and Jesse
Daniel of Chase City and a sister, Prena Brunson of Chase City, four
great grandchildren and an uncle, Stanley Bryant of Washington, DC,
three aunts, Ruth Elam Bryant of Washington, DC, Elnora Barnes and Lou
Alice Pulliam, both of Camden, three nieces, Lynette Elam Davis of
Oklahoma, and Kisha Daniel Wood and Katina Daniel, both of Chase City
and three nephews, Alex Elam of California, Jesse Daniel of South
Boston and Brian Daniel of Chase City. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Willie Edmond Elam and Lucille Pulliam Elam, and two uncles,
Lawrence Elam and Henry Daniel.
A memorial service for Mrs. Washington will be conducted on Wednesday,
October 17 at 1 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel. The family requests

Mrs. Evelyn Epps Crews
Mrs. Evelyn Epps Crews of 1631 Jeffress Boulevard, South Boston died
Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born February 7,
1933, she was 74 at the time of her death. A  retired seamstress and
employee of Craddock & Terry, she was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Crews is survived by two daughters, Cathy Rice and husband, Allen
of South Boston, Dale Cook of Dunn, NC, two grandsons, Robert "Stormy"
March, Jr. and Chris Rice and wife Tammy and a granddaughter, Teresa
Cook and husband, John and five great grandchildren, Meagan March,
Kelsey and Elizabeth Rice and Jeremy and Zachry Cook.
Also surviving are three sisters, Geneva Cole of Halifax, Margaret
Hemric of South Boston, and Norell Ridgeway and husband Clyde of Alton
and a brother, Cecil H. Epps and wife Shirley of Halifax.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert William Crews and her
parents, Charlie H. Epps and Lillian Hall Epps and one brother,
Lawrence R. "Buck" Epps.
The family will receive friends tonight, October 15 at Brooks Funeral
Home from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 16 at 2 p.m. at
Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dan River Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Lucille Jackson Clanton
Mrs. Lucille Jackson Clanton, 84, of 1097 Joe Jackson Trail, Halifax
died October 11, 2007.  She was born in Halifax County, son of the late
Mr. Joseph Jackson and Mrs. Angeline Wimbish Jackson and was married to
the late Mr. Jack Clanton.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary C. Weeks-Green (Robert) of
Thomasville, NC; three sons, Phillip J. Canada, Jr. (Elizabeth) of
Baltimore, MD, Mark Canada (Doreen) and Walter Clanton, all of Hawaii;
two sisters, Mrs. Hadasha Brock and Mrs. Janet Lockhart, both of
Halifax; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy's Grove
Baptist Church with Rev. Herman Robertson conducting the service.

Mr. Carlton James McDaniel
Mr. Carlton James McDaniel, 87, of 6106 Huell Matthews Highway, South
Boston died Thursday, October 11, 2007 at The Woodview.  He was born in
Halifax County on February 16, 1920, son of the late James H. McDaniel
and Mamie Ida Gilliland McDaniel and was married to Elizabeth Rogers
McDaniel.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone  and
loved bluegrass and gospel music.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one step-daughter, Cheryl
Church and husband John of Halifax; two step-sons, Sammy Rogers and
wife Jeanette, Allen Rogers and wife JoAnne, all of South Boston; six
step-grandchildren; two nieces, Ann Lastovica and Janie Weinstern; one
nephew, Randy Cage.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris
Perkins McDaniel, brother Melvin McDaniel and two sisters, Elsie
Barksdale and Irma Cage.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 14 at First Baptist Church
of Millstone with Rev. Bob Watts and Rev. Ron Rhew officiating.  Burial
followed in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to First
