Mrs. Ann Barksdale Meeler
Mrs. Ann Barksdale Meeler, 78, of South Boston died Saturday, October 6,
2007 at Duke University Medical Center. Born in Halifax County on
September 2, 1929 to the late Charles Beverly Barksdale and Mary Scofield
Barnes Barksdale, she was married to the late Jesse Allen Meeler, Sr. and
was a member of Mercy Seat Presbyterian Church and was a member of
Colonial Dames. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Meeler is survived by two daughters, Mary “Bonnie” Briant of Seattle,
WA and Nancy Testerman of Montgomery Village, MD and a son, Jesse Allen
Meeler, Jr. of Newton, NJ, seven grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, John and Cary
Barksdale of Sutherlin and David Barksdale of Danville.
A funeral service for Mrs. Meeler will be conducted on Wednesday, October
10 at 10 am. at Mercy Seat Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. Edmond
Melvin, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Seat Perpetual Care
Cemetery Fund, c/o John Barksdale, 7010 Melon Road, Sutherlin, VA 24594.

Mrs. Gaynell Lloyd Wilborn
Mrs. Gaynell Lloyd Wilborn of South Boston died Saturday, October 6, 2007
at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on March 13,
1920 and was 87 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Ellis
Wise Lloyd and Martha Palmer Lloyd Compton and was married to the late
Robert “Jack” Harris Wilborn. She was a member of the Crystal Hill
Southern Baptist Church.
Mrs. Wilborn is survived by four daughters, Ruby Irene Wilborn and friend,
Robert Briggs of South Boston, Mildred W. Propst and husband, Homer of
Virgilina, Margaret Catherine Barksdale and husband Joe of South Boston
and Donna Jean Short and husband, Mark of Nathalie and one son, Raymond
Edward Wilborn and wife, Nancy of Halifax, a brother, Herbert Lloyd of
Nathalie, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great
granddaughter.
A graveside service for Mrs. Wilborn will be conducted Monday, October 8
at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge cemetery with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 8 from 1 until 1:45 p.m.
at Powell Funeral Home.
Emily Eunice Baughan
Emily Eunice Baughan, 6, of Saxe, died Friday, October 5, 2007. She was
the daughter of Richard and Nora Griffith. She is survived by one sister,
Tori Lynn Campbell, one brother, Dalton Ray Campbell and big brother Carl
T. Reed, all of Saxe.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 7 at Drakes Branch
Baptist Church with Steven Carne and Richard Barton officiating. Interment
followed at Newcomb Family Cemetery in Saxe.

Mrs. Christine Snead Priest
Mrs. Christine Snead Priest of 1145 Scottsburg Road, Scottsburg died
Friday, October 5, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax
County on July 17, 1922, she was 85 at the time of her death. She was the
daughter of the late Harold Snead and the late Hattie Snead and was
married to the late James Robert “Bob” Priest. She was a member of the
Scottsburg Baptist Church.
Mrs. Priest is survived by a son, Dr. James H. Priest and wife, Mary
Eleanor of Vernon Hill and three grandsons, Berkley Priest of Richmond,
Regan Priest and wife Kimberly of Vernon Hill and Michael Priest of St.
George’s University Medical School in Grenada and one great grandson, Noah
Jackson Priest of Vernon Hill and a sister, Gray S. Dismuke of South
Boston.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 8 at 11 a.m. at the
Scottsburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Simmons and the Rev. Doug
Gibson conducting the service. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The
family will receive friends at the home of James and Mary Eleanor Priest,
2101 Asbury Church Road, Vernon Hill. For memorials, please consider the

Mrs. Daisy Marie Jones Brandon
Mrs. Daisy Marie Jones Brandon of Alton died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at
Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 48. Born in Halifax County on
December 29, 1958 to the late Mr. George Willard Jones and Mrs. Emma
Thorpe Jones, she was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton.
Mrs. Brandon is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Cheron Coleman of Java, two
sisters, Mrs. Gloria Williams of Alton and Mrs. Dale Dunn of Semora, NC, a
son-in-law, Mr. Shawn Coleman of Java, two brothers-in-law, Mr. Larry
Williams of Alton and Mr. Herbert Dunn of Semora, NC, five aunts and four
uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Brandon will be conducted on Monday, October 8
at 3 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton with the Rev. Harvey
Bigelow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family
will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Larry and Gloria
Williams, 1100 Mills Pond Road, Alton.
Ms. Paris Nicolette Davis, 15, of 831 Webster Street, South Boston
died October 2, 2007 at University of Virginia Hospital. She was born in
Halifax County on May 26, 1992, A daughter of Mr. Floyd Jeffrey Davis and
Mrs. Ivonoa Michell Williams Davis and was a member of Greater Mayfield
Apostolic Church and a student at Halifax County Middle school.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one God-sister, Ms. Laresa
Williams of South Boston; a devoted step-mother, Mrs. Darlene Davis of
South Boston; her maternal grandparents, Mr. Clyde Lindsey, Mrs. Doresa
Williams Lindsey and Mrs. Ivea Williams, all of South Boston; her paternal
grandmother, Mrs. Carroll Davis Williams of South Boston; her
step-grandparents, Mr. James Carden and Mrs. Havana Carden of Scottsburg;
other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr.
Jeffrey Gavin Davis and her grandfather, Mr. Junior Willie Williams.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 7 at First Baptist Church with
Elder Bernard Wilkins officiating. Burial followed in the Rose Garden
Cemetery.
Ms. Cecil Louise Anderson Seamster
Ms. Cecil Louise Anderson Seamster, 64, of 808 Berry Hill Road, South
Boston died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at The Woodview. She was born in
Halifax County on October 19, 1942, a daughter of the late Cabell Lacy
Anderson, Sr. and Dorothy Fallen Anderson Trent and was a member of
Childrey Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Renee Seamster Cherry and husband
Clifton of South Boston; one son, John Christopher Anderson of Frederick,
MD; one brother, Cabell Lacy "Sonny" Anderson, Jr. of South Boston; four
grandchildren, Allison Cherry, Christopher Anderson, Jr., Sarah Anderson,
Kimberly Anderson; four sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held Saturday, October 6 at Winns Creek Baptist
Church with Rev. Jim Kopco officiating. Memorials may be directed to the

Mr. Edward Rufus Satterfield
Mr. Edward Rufus Satterfield, 79, of 1075 Fordland Drive, Halifax died
Thursday, October 4, 2007 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on
April 23, 1928, a son of the late Edward Osborne Satterfield and Hallie
Tuck Satterfield and was married to Catherine Campbell Satterfield.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy S. Elliott
and husband Paul of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Christopher P. Elliott
and wife Susan, Cynthia E. Knott and husband Ben; four
great-grandchildren, Jacob C. Elliott, Emilee C. Elliott, Ashlyn Knott,
Caleb Knott; two brothers, Bruce Satterfield of Halifax and James
Satterfield of Mechanicsville; one sister, Angie S. Williams of Spruce
Pines, NC.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 6 at Powell Funeral Home
Chapel with Jeaux (Jo) Simmons officiating. Burial followed in Virgilina
Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Halifax Regional Hospice, 2204

McNair

Wagstaff McNair, 93, widow of Hunter Rice Wagstaff, Jr. and Irving M.
McNair, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 in South Boston Manor. A daughter
of the late William Thomas and Nannie Puryear Owen, Ruby was a graduate of
Farmville State Teachers College, now known as Longwood University. She
taught for 10 years in the Mecklenburg County School System and was an LPN
at Halifax Regional Hospital for 10 years. Ruby was also the local news
correspondent for The News Progress, covering the Buffalo Junction
community. Services will be graveside at 11 a.m. Monday, October 8 at
Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Jane Lyon and Mrs. Marie
Rose officiating. Mrs. McNair is survived by a daughter and son-in-law,
Mildred and William Franklin Runkle of Waynesboro; step-sons, Irving M.
McNair, Jr. of Morristown, NJ, Charles T. McNair of Lafeyette, PA, and
Grayson E. McNair of Macungle, PA. Also surviving are grandchildren,
William Hunter Runkle of Staunton and Elizabeth Gayle Runkle Edwards and
her husband, Bryan of Wayneseboro; and sisters, Alma Owen Hite of South
Boston, Frances Owen Fleming of Richmond, and Alice Owen Runkle of
Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mary Alice
Runkle. The family will receive friends immediately following the service
in the fellowship hall. Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home is serving the
