Mrs. Lucille Slate Conner
Mrs. Lucille Slate Conner died September 30, 2007 at her home. She was born in Beckley, WV, a daughter of the late Ivy Henry Slate and Sally Anne Satterfield Slate and was married to the late Lacy Matthew Conner.
She is survived by two sons, Donnie G. Conner of Richmond, Charles "Butch" L. Conner and wife Pam of Scottsburg; two daughters, Jo Ann C. Willkerson and husband Donnie of South Boston, Jean C. Owen and husband Simmon of South Boston; seven grandchildren, Charles L. "Chuck" Conner, Jr., Angela D. Conner, Laura C. Strickland, April Throckmorton, Frosty Owen, David "Dabo" Owen, Michelle Weddle; eight great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild; one sister, Pauline Slate Henderson of Vernon Hill; one brother, Branford Slate of South Boston. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Osbey Slate.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 3 at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bruce Hagy and Rev. William Coghill officiating. Burial followed in Halifax Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to Halifax Regional Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, VA 24592.


Mr. Willie Lee Williams
Mr. Willie Lee Williams, Jr., 57, of Logan Street, South Boston died September 27, 2007 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on December 29, 1949, a son of the late Mr. Willie Lee Williams, Sr. and Mrs. Sarah Palmer Williams. He was married to the late Mrs. Betty Williams and was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Sarah Ann of South Carolina and Brenda of Washington, DC; six sons, Willie, III of South Carolina, Tony, Derrell and Eric, all of Lynchburg, Antwon of South Boston and Markus of Washington, DC; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Brenda Steward of Columbus, GA; four brothers, Lenwood Williams of Upper Marlboro, MD, Sterling Williams and Ellis Williams, both of South Boston and Chris Roseburough of Fredericksburg; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 3 at Jeffress Funeral Home with Rev. Hayward Jennings officiating. Burial followed in the Rose Garden Cemetery.
Mrs. Mollie Jackson Barksdale
Mrs. Mollie Jackson Barksdale, 87, of Bronx, NY died September 28, 2007. She was born in Nathalie, a daughter of the late Mrs. Angie Wilkes Jackson and Mr. Embra Jackson and was married to the late Mr. Coley Barksdale.
She is survived by one daughter, Marion L. Carrington (William) of Bronx, NY; one son, Coley C. Barksdale (Adell) of Zebulon, NC; a son-in-law, Milton Garrett; one brother, James Jackson of Philadelphia, PA; two granddaughters, Urander Barksdale and Unice Barksdale; two grandsons, Wilson Garrett and Coley A. Barksdale; two great-grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters-in-law; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Ellis Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph D. Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Clarence Royal Tuck
Mr. Clarence Royal Tuck, Sr., 53, of 1203 White Oak Fork Road, Virgilina died Saturday, September 29, 2007. He was born in South Boston on March 30, 1954, a son of Mr. Arthur C. Tuck and Mrs. Jessie Felton Tuck and was married to Mrs. Barbara Betts Tuck. He was a member of Blue Wing Grove Baptist Church and was an Army veteran.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by two sons, Mr. Clarence Tuck, Jr. and Mr. Tariq Tuck, both of South Boston; one sister, Mrs. Suzette Richardson of South Boston; three brothers-in-law, Mr. Robert Betts, Mr. Douglas Betts and Mr. Ernest Betts; four aunts, three uncles, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Blue Wing Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Hayward Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 99. The family will receive friends tonight from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.


Miss Mary Frances Lowery
Miss Mary Frances Lowery, 71, of South Boston died October 1, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Brunswick County on March 15, 1936, a daughter of the late William W. Lowery and Mary Jenny Royster Lowery.
She is survived by one sister, Evelyn Neal of South Boston; one brother, Gilbert Lowery of Bay City, TX; one niece, Pamela McKee and one nephew, Don Alan Lowery.
Graveside services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Terry Blevins officiating.


Mrs. Mary Inez Boyd Floyd,
Mrs. Mary Inez Boyd Floyd, 82, of South Boston, formerly of Moncks Corner, SC deed Monday, October 1, 2007 at Seasons at The Woodview. She was born November 11, 1924 in Loris, SC, a daughter of the late Daniel Teedman Boyd and Edna Hardee Boyd and was married to the late Maxie Ray Floyd. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner, SC.
She is survived by one son, Levon Ray Floyd and wife Dianne of South Boston; one granddaughter, Kimberly Floyd and husband Greg; one grandson, Kevin Ray Floyd and wife Christi; two great-grandchildren, Elyse Judianne Crawford and Luke Aiden Floyd. She was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Boyd.
Graveside services will be held Friday, October 5 at 3:30 p.m. at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the South Boston Alzheimer's Association, c/o Seasons at The Woodview, 301 Powell Road, South Boston, VA 24592.
