Mrs. Marie Whitt Murray
Mrs. Marie Whitt Murray, 100, of 1063 Murray Road, South Boston died
Monday, September 24, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  She was born
in Halifax County on October 1, 1906, a daughter of the late Myrtle
Wilmouth Whitt and General Lee Whitt and was married to the late John
Robert "Tab" Murray, Sr.  She was a member of Shady Grove United
Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Ola W. Puryear of Raleigh, NC and Peggy
W. Gravitt of Danville; grandchildren, Slade Murray, Shawn Jones,
Elizabeth Murray, Terri Murray, Robert "Bob" Murray, Gaye Clifford,
Bruce Murray, Jr. and six great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in
death by two sons, John Robert Murray, Jr. and Bruce W. Murray;
sisters, Pauline Puryear, Odelia Puryear, Mozel Wilborn, Irene Watts
and brothers Alfred "Tootsie" Whitt, Leroy Whitt and Austin Whitt.
Graveside services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Shady Grove
United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Raymond McGarr officiating.

Mrs. Katie A. Lucille Nicholson Ragland,
Mrs. Katie A. Lucille Nicholson Ragland, 86, of 1923 North Main Street,
South Boston died Friday, September 21, 2007 at Halifax Regional
Hospital.  She was born in Louisburg, NC on September 25, 1920, a
daughter of the late Mr. Newell Nicholson and Mrs. Katie Green
Nicholson.  She was married to the late Mr. Wilton Edward Ragland, Sr.
and was a retired Halifax County Public School Educator with 39 years
of service.
She is survived by one son, Mr. Wilton Ragland, Jr. of the home; two
sisters, Mrs. Pearl N. Jones of Franklinton, NC and Mrs. Mattie L.
Simmons of Louisburg, NC; one brother, Mr. James L. Nicholson of Temple
Hill, MD; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m. at
Ebenezer C.M.E. Church with Rev. Michele Parker officiating.  Burial
will follow in the Rose Garden Cemetery.  The family will receive
friends at her home.


Mr. James Herbert Seay
Mr. James Herbert Seay, 86, of 2161 Rodgers Chapel Road, Clover died
Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born
in Halifax County on January 14, 1921, a son of the late Clarence
Edward Seay and Virginia Mims Seay and was married to Mildred Talley
Seay.  He was a member of Mount Laurel United Methodist Church and the
Mount Laurel Ruritan Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mary Lee
Williams and husband Bobby of Clover; one sister, Sarah Virginia Guill
of Scottsburg.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Elizabeth
Seay and four brothers, Charlie, William, Lawrence and Hubert Seay.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m. at
Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Don Pizzeck officiating.  Burial will
follow in the Clover Cemetery.  The family will receive friends tonight
from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed
to the Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church, 8077 Newbill School Road,
Clover, VA 24534 or a charity of your choice.

Mrs. Edna Logan Majors
Mrs. Edna Logan Majors, 88, of Billy's Lane, Halifax died September 25,
2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  She was born in Halifax County on
October 26, 1918, a daughter of the late Mr. Raymond Logan and Mrs.
Molly Edmunds Logan.  She was a member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church and
was married to the late Mr. Johnny Edward Majors.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn M. Coles of Halifax;
three sons, Mr. William E. Majors, Mr. Thomas A. Majors and Mr.
Theodore Majors, all of Halifax; three sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Ragsdale,
Ms. Peggy Logan and Mrs. Joanna Starkey; 16 grandchildren, 29
great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren; two
daughters-in-law, Mrs. Betty F. Majors and Mrs. Gracie M. Majors; one
step-sister, Mrs. Alice Ferrell; other relatives and friends, including
caregiver Ms. Rose Howerton.  She was preceded in death by four
brothers, Mr. Willie Logan, Mr. Harold Logan, Mr. John Nelson Logan and
Mr. Aubrey Logan, three step-sisters, Mrs. Sue Hart, Mrs. Virgie Chaney
and Mrs. Dorothy Majors and two step-daughters, Mr. Elmer Edmunds and
Mr. Roy Edmunds.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at
St. Paul C.M.E. Church with Pastor Irma Wilson officiating.  Burial
will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive
friends at 4064 Mountain Road, Halifax.
