Mr. Douglas Thomas "T.C." Clay, Jr.
Mr. Douglas Thomas "T.C." Clay, Jr. of 5220 Melon Road, South Boston
died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in
Halifax County on March 19, 1960, he was 47 at the time of his death.
He was the owner/operator of Clay Enterprises Plumbing and Electrical
and riding his motorcycle was his passion.
Mr. Clay is survived by his wife, Theresa Adams-Clay of the home, a
son, Matthew T. Clay of South Boston, his mother, Phyllis Dobbins Clay
and a sister, Deborah C. Wilmoth, both of Scottsburg and a brother,
Mark A. Clay of South Boston. He was preceded in death by his father,
Douglas Thomas Clay, Sr. and a sister, Marsha L. Clay.
A memorial service for Mr. Clay will be conducted at 11 a.m. on
Wednesday morning, September 19 at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel
Visitation will be at his home on Tuesday, September 18 from 5 to 7
p.m.

Mrs. Lena Grace Stutler Escue
Mrs. Lena Grace Stutler Escue of 507 Wentworth Drive, South Boston died
Saturday, September 15, 2007 at The Woodview. She was born October 1,
1911 in Kanawha County, West Virginia and was 95 years old. She was the
daughter of the late Ralph C. Stutler and Sara Viola Pauley Stutler and
was married to the late Glen Escue. She was a member of the Jackson
Avenue Baptist Church in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
Mrs. Escue is survived by a son, Rev. Douglas K. Spurlock and wife,
Carol Jeannette of South Boston a granddaughter, Tamra L. Spurlock of
Suffolk, a great granddaughter, Madison Spurlock Crouse of Virginia
Beach, a nephew, Ronald D. Stutler of St. Albans, WVA and a niece,
Crystal Rothbauer of Hinesville, GA. She was preceded in death by a
grandson, Douglas K. Spurlock, Jr.
A funeral service for Mrs. Escue will be conducted on Tuesday,
September 18 at 11 a.m. at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant,
WVA, Burial will follow in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens. The family
will receive friends at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home one hour prior to the

Mr. Marshall Kelly Covington
Mr. Marshall Kelly Covington of 1313 Jeffress Street, South Boston died
Friday, September 14, 2007 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born
in South Boston, the son of the late Eddie Covington and Curtis Fallen
Covington and was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church
and a case worker with the Halifax County Department of Social
Services.
Mr. Covington is survived by a sister, Jean C. Dalton and husband
Kenneth of Ringgold and a brother, C. D. Covington and wife Polly of
South Boston and two God children, Lucas Boyd of Lynchburg and Mary
Peace Brown of Winston-Salem, NC and a number of nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by a sister, Almeda Seamster and by four
brothers, Ben Covington, Roy Covington, Elmer Covington and Welford
Covington.
A memorial service will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. at Powell
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Daryl Hancock officiating. For
memorials, please consider the South Boston Soup Kitchen in care of
Pastor Jean Harris, 406 Traver Avenue, South Boston.
Mrs. Carolyn Jane Boynton Graves
Mrs. Carolyn Jane Boynton Graves of 1072 Calvary Road, Alton died
Thursday, September 13, 2007 at her home. Born in Bartow, FL on October
12, 1914, she was 92 at the time of her death. She was a member of
Calvary United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Pineland College
in Salemburg, NC. She was the World War II war time wife of Sgt. E. C.
Graves who she married on March 24, 1940. She was the lead secretary
for the NC Department of Transportation and a homemaker.
Mrs. Graves is survived by two sons, E. Clark Graves, Jr. of Alton and
Joseph B. Graves and wife, Sue W. Graves, also of Alton, three
grandchildren, Sarah Clark Graves of Alton and Benjamin Washam Graves
of Raleigh, NC and Thomas P. Graves, a member of the National Guard
deployed in Iraq. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C.
Graves and her parents, Joseph Espy Boynton and Sarah Elizabeth Averitt
Boynton.
A graveside service at Calvary United Methodist Church was conducted on
Sunday, September 16 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Josh Johnson officiating.
