Mr. Charles Edward Salley, Jr.
Mr. Charles Edward Salley, Jr.  of 2132 Cowford Road, Halifax died
Sunday, September 9, 2007 at The Woodview Nursing Home. Born October
22, 1921 he was 85 at the time of his death and was the son of the late
Charles Edward Salley, Sr. and Annie Reaves Salley and was married to
the late Lois Trickey Salley. He was a veteran of the World War II Army
Air Corps and was a member of Dan River Baptist Church, the American
Legion  Post 8 and the VFW of Halifax. Mr. Salley is survived by a son,
Charles E. "Eddy" Salley, III and wife JoAnn of Halifax, two sisters,
Lucille Shotwell of Oakland, MD and Louise Thomas of Roxboro, NC, a
brother, John Henry Salley of Halifax and three grandchildren, Wanda
Salley of Panama City Beach, FL, Steve and Charlie Salley, both of
Halifax and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a
brother, James R. "Jim Bob" Salley.  A funeral service will be held
Tuesday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. Doug Gibson conducting the service. Burial will follow in the Dan
River Baptist Church cemetery with military honors. The family will
receive friends Monday, September 10 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Powell
Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Eddy and JoAnn Salley,
1040 John Brooks Trail, Halifax. For memorials please consider the

Mrs. Katherine Nichols "Kat" Gibson
Mrs. Katherine Nichols "Kat" Gibson died peacefully on September 9,
2007 at her son's home in Hampton at the age of 96. Mrs. Gibson was
born in Halifax County, the daughter of the late Samuel Morgan Nichols
and Mattie Edwards Nichols. She was married to the late Kemper R.
Gibson. She was a housewife, farmer and member of Clover Baptist
Church.Mrs. Gibson is survived by her son, Rowlett "Gibby" Gibson of Hampton and daughter Carolyn Bahen and husband Joe of Richmond; grandchildren Judy Colyer and husband Rusty, Jim Gibson and wife Merri Beth and their mother, Nancy S. Gibson, Stephen Bahn and wife April, and Ashley Bahen Erwin and husband Greg; great grandchildren Nicole Gibson, Kemper
Gibson, Palmer Bahen and Daniel Bahen; step-grandchildren Kristen, Dane
and Erik Thorson. Her brothers, Jerry Nichols and Dick Nichols preceded
Mrs. Gibson in death. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on
Tuesday, September 11  at Clover Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill
Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Cemetery. The family
will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Monday night from 7 to

Mr. Thomas Carlton  "Carl" Bradley, Sr
Mr. Thomas Carlton  "Carl" Bradley, Sr. of 1083 Myers Road, Halifax
died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at his home. Born in Halifax County on
May 4, 1919, he was 88 at the time of his death. He was the son of the
late Richard Thomas Bradley and Nannie Sue Reeves Bradley and was
married to the late Margaret Fulp Bradley. He was a World War II Army
veteran and a member of Dan River Baptist Church.  Mr. Bradley is
survived by three daughters, Anne B. Richardson and husband, William T.
of Halifax, Joyce B. Thompson and husband Hancil of Crimora, Dixie B.
Rhodes and husband Wayne of Harrisonburg and one son, Bill Bradley and
partner Debbie Wooddell of Mt. Crawford, four grandchildren, Tommi
Richardson and wife Bobbie of Halifax, Beth Allen and husband Neil of
Roxboro, NC, Robbie Bagbey and partner Erica Rimmer of Elkton and Megan
Bradley of South Boston and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by a son, Thomas Carlton Bradley, Jr.  A graveside service was
held on Sunday, September 9 at 2 p.m. at Dan River Baptist Church
cemetery with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. For memorials, please

Mr. Jonathan Michael Carter
Mr. Jonathan Michael Carter, 19, of Scottsburg died Tuesday, September
4, 2007.  He was born in South Boston on September 5, 1987, a son of
Mr. Michael Womack and Mrs. Carla Carter Womack. In addition to his
parents, he is survived by one sister, Ms. Crystal Womack of Scottsburg
and one brother, Mr. Christian Womack of Scottsburg; maternal
grandparents, Mr. Otis Carter and Mrs. Charlotte Carter of Halifax; his
paternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Womack of Scottsburg; five uncles, Mr.
Charlie Womack and Mr. Isadore Womack, both of Richmond, Mr. Enoch
Womack and Mr. Gregory Womack, both of Scottsburg, Mr. Vincent Logan of South Boston; seven aunts, Mrs. Helen Canada of Clover, Mrs. Alberta
Jones of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Ethel Womack of Richmond, Mrs. Agnes
Sydnor and Mrs. Marion Womack, both of Scottsburg, Mrs. Frankie Logan
and Mrs. Tamara Carter, both of South Boston; a devoted friend, Mr.
Donald Ragsdale of Halifax, other relatives and friends.  He was
preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Mr. Jessie Womack.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 8 at Spanish Grove
Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Womack officiating.  Burial followed in
the church cemetery.

Mr. Clarence Davis Powell, 69
Mr. Clarence Davis Powell, 69, of 5022 Clover Road, Clover died
Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.  He was born
in Halifax County on January 24, 1938, a son of the late Charles Henry
Powell and Elsie Martin Powell and was married to Dorothy G. Powell. 
He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church. In addition to his
wife, he is survived by one son, Steven Davis Powell of Nathalie; one
daughter, Dana A. Powell of South Boston; one sister, Helen Frances
Lloyd of Clover; one brother, Henry Howard Powell of Clover, other
relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 8
at Providence Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Jones officiating. 
Burial followed in the Powell Family Cemetery.  Memorials may be
directed to the Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875, South
Boston, VA 24592.

Mr. William Ronald Younger
Mr. William Ronald Younger, 88, of 4175 Leda Road, Nathalie died
Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at his home.  He was born in Halifax
County on October 30, 1918, a son of the late Stanley Earnley Younger
and Eula Blanks Younger and was married to Elizabeth Pugh Younger.  He
was a retired farmer and a member of County Line Baptist Church. In
addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-daughters, Connie
Dodson and husband Pete of Randolph, Cathy Panther and husband Jake of
Chase City; two step-sons, Donald Roberts and wife Treva of Java,
George Roberts of Cleveland, GA; 10 step-grandchildren, 10
step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Guthrie of Lynchburg
and Joyce Taylor of Halifax.Funeral services were held Saturday, September 8 at County Line Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Chappell and Mike McDowell conducting the service.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Harriet Hope Mullis
Mrs. Harriet Hope Mullis, 62, of Berry Hill Road, South Boston died
Friday, September 7, 2007 at Berry Hill Nursing Home.  She was born in
Welch, WV on December 4, 1944, a daughter of the late Odell Mullis, Sr.
and Verna Bell Mullis.  She attended Seven Oaks Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Tammy J. Hilburn and husband Steve of
Kannapolis, NC; one son, James Johnson and wife Wendy of Kannapolis,
NC; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, Iva Guill
and husband Garland of Scottsburg, Julia Harmon and husband David of
Elk Park, NC; three brothers, Richard Mullis and wife Linda and Odell
Mullis, Jr. and wife Diana, all of Glen Allen and Gary Mullis and
friend Geneva Jarrett of Scottsburg.
Graveside services were held Sunday, September 9 at Oakland Cemetery
with Rev. Bob Watts conducting the service.  Memorials may be directed
to the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund.

Mr. Phil Gray,
Mr. Phil Gray, 77, of Bradley Creek Road, Nathalie died Wednesday,
September 5, 2007 at his home.  He was born in Halifax County on
October 24, 1928, a son of the late Mr. James Gray, Sr. and Mrs. Mary
Jane Wyatt Gray and was married to Mrs. Gracie Moorefield Ward Gray. 
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Ferry Street. In addition to
his wife, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Pearl Jenkins of
Manhattan, NY; and other relatives and friends. Private memorial
services will be held at a later date.

Mr. DeMarcus Leon Womack
Mr. DeMarcus Leon Womack of Richmond died Saturday, September 1, 2007 in Richmond at the age of 18. Mr. Womack is survived by one son, Mr.
Demetris Womack, his mother, Mrs. Currie McFail, his stepfather, Mr.
James McFail, his father, Mr. Leon Womack of South Boston, a sister,
Ms. Naketa Womack, five brothers, Mr. Marquis Womack and Mr. Tabious
McFail, both of South Boston, Mr. James McFail, Mr. Damien McFail and
Mr. Cezanne McFail, three step brothers, his grandparents, Mrs. Geneva
Wood and Mrs. Louise Womack, both of South Boston, his step
grandmother, Mrs. Mary Tucker, a special friend, Nicole and a host of
cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Graveside rites
for Mr. Womack were conducted Sunday, September 9 at 10 a.m. at the Old
Berry Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
