Ms. Lou Ethel Doones
Ms. Lou Ethel Doones of New York, formerly of Halifax County, died
Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City at the
age of 81. Born in Halifax County on March 21, 1926 to the late Mr.
Cleveland Doones and Mrs. Ulia Watkins Doones, she was a member of Dan
River Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Doones is survived by three sons, Mr. Archie Doones of Danville,
Mr. Darryl Glover and Mr. Anthony Glover, both of New York, NY, a
daughter, Mrs. Linda Glover Williams of New York, NY, a stepson Mr.
Harold Claiborne of Cluster Springs, a sister, Mrs. Christine Gunn of
Roxboro, NC, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death
by a brother, Mr. Watkin Doones and two sisters, Mrs. Geraldine
Drumwright and Mrs. Willie Mae Walton.
A funeral service for Mrs. Doones will be conducted on Saturday, August
18 at 11 a.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel with Elder David Chalmers
officiating. Burial will follow in the Dan River Bethel Baptist Church
cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on
Saturday morning.


Mr. Thomas T. Ross
Mr. Thomas T. Ross, 25, of Hartford, CT died Wednesday, August 8, 2007.
He was born on October 19, 1981 in South Boston, a son of Judith Ross
and Willie Woodson. He was a graduate of Weaver High School Class of
2000 and was currently employed by the Otis Elevator Company in
Bloomfield.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Ayden and
Khyree Ross; three sisters, Shanita and Lawanda Ross of Hartford and
Annette Allen; two brothers, Willie, Jr. and Tyrone Woodson of
Hartford; seven nieces and five nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 15 at 11 a.m. at the First
Cathedral, 1151 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield, CT. Burial will follow on
Thursday, August 16, at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery.

Mr. Johnnie Louis Stembridge,
Mr. Johnnie Louis Stembridge, Jr., 66, died July 31, 2007.  He was the
son of the late Willie Lee Elliott Stembridge and Johnnie Louis
Stembridge and grandson of the late Maggie Glasscock Elliott and
Charlie Elliott.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Pulliam Stembridge of Red Oak;
one daughter, Teressa S. Hayes and husband Allen of Nelson; one son,
Michael L. Stembridge and wife Pamela W. Stembridge of Red Oak;
grandchildren, Brittany and Cheyenne Stembridge, Christopher Hayes; two
sisters, Connie S. Sizemore of Clarksville and Barbara S. Martin of
Farmville; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 1 at Bethel Baptist Church
with Rev. Horace Murray and Rev. Larry Propst officiating.

Christina (Christy) Lynn Humphries,
Christina (Christy) Lynn Humphries, 21, of 107 James Town Square,
Apartment 6, Washington, Indiana died Friday, August 10, 2007 at
Daviess Community Hospital, Washington, Indiana.  She was born August
21, 1985, was a graduate of Washington and was a student of Vicennes
University.
She is survived by a daughter, Hailey Marie Herrernan and fiancé Bryant
Herrernan of Washington, Indiana; her father, Mark Dwayne Humphries of
Virgilina; her mother, Cindy Garrett of Washington, Indiana; one
brother, Kyle Hrebik of Washington, Indiana; two sisters, Alexus Rust
of Washington, Indiana and Sue Ellen Wilborn of Halifax; paternal
grandparents, Jimmy and Linda Humphries of Virgilina; maternal
grandparents, Dorothy Garrett of Bradenton, FL and Edward Garrett of
Clover.
Funeral services were held August 18 at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel,
Roxboro, NC with Rev. Jimmy McMillan officiating.  Burial followed at
Providence Baptist Church, Roxboro, NC.


Mrs. Ruth Eades Mullins
Mrs. Ruth Eades Mullins, 84, of Charlottesville and formerly of South
Boston, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Laurels in
Charlottesville.  She was born in Pittsylvania County on April 5, 1923,
daughter of the late Ocie Eades and Sally Barbour Eades and was married
to the late Thomas Mullins.  She was a retired textile worker with JP
Stevens and was a member of First Baptist Church, South Boston.
She is survived by one daughter, Joan M. Snow and husband Ronnie of
Charlottesville; one sister, Mildred W. Womack of Halifax; one
grandson, Greg Perkins and wife Martha; one great-grandson, Hunter
Perkins.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine E. Mills
and Sadie Ridgeway and four brothers, Roy Eades, Robert Eades, Garland
Eades and Willie Eades.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Powell
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Melvin Bradshaw.  Burial will follow
in Oak Ridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends tonight from
7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to
South Boston Alzheimer's Association, 301 Powell Road, South Boston, VA
24592.
