Obituaries
Mr. Anthony Darren Whitlow
Mr. Anthony Darren Whitlow, 37, of 514 High View Church Road, Roxboro,
NC, died Sunday, July 15, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Born
in Halifax County, Mr. Whitlow is the son of Graley and Brenda Mooney
Whitlow of Roxboro. He was employed by the Person County School system
as a carpenter foreman and was a member of Florence Avenue Baptist
Church of Virgilina where he was the chairman of the deacons and choir
director. He also sang in the Lighthouse Quartet.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Amy Powell
Whitlow, two children, Ty and Kenli Whitlow, a brother, Clint Whitlow
and wife Jane of Randleman, NC, a sister, Nicky W. Collie and husband
Cameron of Roxboro, his parents-in-law, George and Brenda Powell, also
of Roxboro.
A memorial service was conducted on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Florence
Avenue Baptist Church by the Major Chaplain J. D. Moore and Pastor Sean
McKenzie. Memorials may be made to his children, Ty and Kenli Whitlow,
c/o Amy Whitlow, 514 High View Church Road, Roxboro, NC 27574.
Mr. Preston Gibson Whitehead
Mr. Preston Gibson Whitehead, 59, of South Boston died Wednesday, July
18, 2007 at Baptist Home, Farmville. He was born in Richmond on
September 10, 1947, a son of the Clarice Nicols Whitehead and the late
John Wilson Whitehead, Jr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, John W.
Whitehead, III of Wamego, Kansas; an uncle and aunt, Charlie and Laura
Nichols of South Boston; two aunts, Eloise Hedderly of South Boston and
Mary Perkins of Anderson, SC, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by one uncle, Carroll Nichols and two aunts, Sarah Franklin and
Janie Marshall.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Powell
Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Wilbourne and Rev. Dr. Tim Cannon
officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The
family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family
requests that those wishing to give memorials please consider the

Mr. Calvin E. Edmonds
Mr. Calvin E. Edmonds of Bridgeport, CT, formerly of Halifax County,
died Monday, July 16, 2007 in Branford, CT at the age of 52.
Mr. Edmonds is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Annie Williams of
Stratford, CT, Ms. Hazel Edmonds of Meriden, CT, Mrs. Carolyn Jackson
of New York, Mrs. Hallie Sparks of South Boston, Mrs. Dorothy Younger
and Ms. Beatrice Edmonds of Stratford, CT, and seven brothers, Mr.
Elijah Edmonds of Stratford, CT, Mr. Lawrence Edmonds and Mr. Gregory
Edmonds, both of Bridgeport, CT, Mr. Nathalie Edmonds, Mr. Preston
Edmonds, Mr. Joseph Edmonds and Mr. Willie Womack, all of South Boston;
and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was
preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
A funeral service for Mr. Edmonds will be conducted on Saturday, July
21 at 3 p.m. at the Crawford House Chapel in Halifax with burial to
follow at the Christ Blue Rock Holiness Church cemetery. The family
will receive friends at 911 Easley Street, South Boston.
