Mr. Curtis Martin

Mr. Curtis Martin of New York, formerly of Halifax County died
Thursday, July 5, 2007 in Albany, New York.  Born in Halifax County on
April 11, 1935 to the late Mr. Paul Martin, Jr. and Mrs. Peachie
Hockett Martin, he was 72 at the time of his death.
Mr. Martin is survived by two sons, Mr. Curtis Martin, Jr. of Atlanta,
Georgia and Mr. David Martin of Charlotte, NC. nine grandchildren four
great grandchildren, a brother, Mr. Charles E. Martin of Halifax, a
sister, Mrs. Arlyce Edmonds of South Boston, three sisters-in-law, Mrs.
Bessie Martin of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Barbara Martin of South Boston and
Mrs. Grindle Martin of Halifax, and a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs.
Jacquelyn Lipscomb, four brothers, Mr. Beverly Martin, Mr. Paul Martin,
Mr. Ernest Martin and Mr. James Martin and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy
Lovelace ad Mrs. Florence Wood.
A memorial service for Mr. Martin will be held Saturday, July 14 at 11
a.m. at Banister Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. William F. Carr
officiating.


Mrs. Jeanetta Wilbourne
Mrs. Jeanetta Wilbourne Johnson of New York, formerly of Halifax
County, died Sunday, July 8, 2007 in New York at the age of 84. Born in
Halifax County on February 19, 1923 to the late Mr. Wille Hodge
Wilborne and Mrs. Lucinda Garrett Wilborne, she was married to the late
Mr. William Wiley Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Janet Ramon of New York,
three sisters, Mrs. Roberta Stewart of Clover, Mrs. Minnie Stewart of
Halifax and Mrs. Grace Gilliam of New York City; one son-in-law, Mr.
Adpholus Brown, Jr. of Clover, two granddaughters, two grandsons, a
granddaughter-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three daughters and
one brother.
A funeral service for Mrs. Johnson will be held Saturday, July 14 at 2
p.m. at Bethel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. William Hicks
officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday.


Mr. Jimmie Lee Hammon
Mr. Jimmie Lee Hammon of 6121 Melon Road, South Boston died Sunday,
July 8,2007 at Duke University Medical Center at the age of 67. Born in
Florence, SC on September 13, 1939 to the late Mr. Aldern Hammon and
Mrs. Edan Cross Hammon, he was married to Mrs. Jacqueline Fuller
Hommon.
Mr. Hammon is survived by his wife of the home, a daughter, Ms. Angela
E. Hammon of Woodbridge, a son, Mr. Jimmie L. Hammon, Jr. of
Washington, DC, a stepson, Mr. Robert Wooten of Washington, DC, nine
grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his mother and father-in-law,
Mr. James Samuel and Mrs. Sallie Samuel of Sutherlin; five
sisters-in-law, Mrs. Loretha Brooks of Washington, Mrs. Charlotte
Fuller of Danville, Mrs. hazel Samuel of Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Gay
Fuller of Roanoke and Mrs.. Rosa Fuller of South Boston, Mr. Lawrence
Fuller of Roanoke, Mr. James Fuller of Danville, Mr. Steven Samuel of
Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Reginald Brooks of Washington, DC and a host of
step brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Hammon will be held Saturday, July 14 at 11
a.m at the Crawford House Chapel in Halifax with Rev. Melvin Fuller
officiating. Public viewing will be Friday at the Jeffress Funeral Home
Chapel in South Boston from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The family will receive
friends at the home, 6121 Melon Road, South Boston.


Mr. Thomas Monroe Keaton
Mr. Thomas Monroe Keaton of 537 Berry Hill Road, South Boston died
Monday, July 9, 2007 at his home. Born in Mecklenburg County on June
28, 1941, he was 66 at the time f his death. He was the son of the late
Thomas N. Keaton and Odella Matthews Keaton and was married to Nellie
Pulliam Keaton.
Mr. Keaton is survived by his wife of the home, a daughter, Angela
Keaton Davis and husband Cleveland of South Boston, a son, Thomas M.
Keaton, Jr. and wife Mandy of Winchester, a grandson, Eli Thomas Keaton
of Winchester; three sisters, Helen Vaughan and husband Elmer and Marie
Overby and husband Ronnie, all of Halifax and Gloria Gravitt and
husband Wayne of Virgilina, two brothers, Eugene Keaton and wife Kathy
of Virgilina and Doug Keaton of South Boston. He was preceded in death
by a sister, Hilda Keaton.
A funeral service for Mr. Keaton was conducted on Wednesday, July 11 at
2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home. Burial followed in Halifax Memorial
Gardens. The family received friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 8:30
p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 537 Berry
Hill Road, South Boston.

Mrs. Rachel H. Parker
Mrs. Rachel H. Parker of Newport News, formerly of Halifax County, died
Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton at the
age of 90. Born April 26, 1917, she was married to the late Mr. Willie
Parker of Weldon, NC. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over
50 years and was a member of the Golden Key Club. In the early years of
her life she was employed at Mary Immaculate Hospital for approximately
30 years.
She is survived by a niece, Anna Stovall, five nephews, Earl Wilkerson,
M. C. Wilkerson, Steve Wilkerson and Haz Wilkerson, Jr., all of Newport
News and Leroy Stovall (Christine) of South Boston, two great nephews,
Antonio Stovall of Newport News and Cedric Stovall of South Boston and
one great niece, Vanessa Lovelace (Gary) of Summers Point, NJ.
A funeral service for Mrs. Parker was held on Wednesday, July 11 at
First Baptist Church in Newport News. Graveside services will be held
Wednesday, July 11 at 2 p.m. at Jeters Chapel Baptist Church cemetery
in South Boston.


David R. Glasscock
David R. Glasscock of LaCrosse died Wednesday, July 4, 2007. He was a
life member of the LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Department, a past member of
the LaCrosse Town Council and a member of Bethany United Methodist
Church. He was the son of the late Henry and Bertha Glasscock if the
Red Bank area.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Audrey T. Glasscock, two
daughters, Sonya Hall and husband, Bryant and Yvette Morris and husband
Keith, all of LaCrosse, a brother, Sam Glasscock of Brodnax and four
grandchildren, Chris Reamy, Christen Hall, Heather and Beth Morris. He
was predeceased by five brothers and one sister.
A funeral service was conducted on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Crowder, Hite
Crews Funeral Home with interment in LaCrosse cemetery. Visitation was
held on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials can
be made to the LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Department or the Bethany United
Methodist Church, Brodnax.


Mr. Lee Roy Coates
Mr. Lee Roy Coates, 71, of 2212 Love Shop Road, Halifax died Tuesday,
July 10, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born in Halifax
County on April 17, 1926, son of the late Clem Edward Coates and Elsie
Shelton Coates and was married to Margaret Beverley Coates.  He was of
the Baptist faith and a retired employee of RTP.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael Leroy
Coates and Edward Dewey Coates and wife Kim, all of Halifax; two
sisters, Frances C. Conner of Halifax and Peggy C. Clark of Nathalie
and one grandson, Brandon Lee Coates.  He was preceded in death by four
brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Brooks
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Rudman officiating.  Burial will
follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.  The family will meet tonight from
7:00-8:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to
the Halifax County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 183, South Boston, VA 24592.

Mr. David Bailey Hudson
Mr. David Bailey Hudson, 62, of Corbin, Kentucky died Monday, July 9,
2007 at his home.  He was born in Pittsylvania County on August 26,
1944, son of the late Louis Bernard Hudson and Irma Keesee Hudson.  He
was a member of First Baptist Church, Corbin, KY, was a long time Mason
being a member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 AF&AM, Goldsboro, NC,
was a long time Shriner, a lifetime member of American Numismatic
Association, Orlando, FL, a member of International Bank Note Society,
was retired Town Manager of Corbin, KY and named Kentucky Colonel by
the Governor of the State of Kentucky.
He is survived by one sister, Emily Ragsdale and husband James of
Chatham; two brothers, Louis D. Hudson and wife Cora of Greensboro, NC
and Aubrey R. Hudson and wife Donna of Java; three nephews and three
nieces.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. at County
Line Baptist Church with Rev. Latta Terry officiating.  Burial will
follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends
following services in the fellowship hall of the church.  Memorials may
