OBITUARIES John Everette Roller
Mr. John Everette Roller of Mount Laurel died July 5, 2008 at his
home.
Born September 6, 1921 in Halifax County, he was 86 at the time of
his
death. He was the son of the late John William Roller and Louise
Bomar
Roller and was married to Frances Irby Roller. He was a member of
the
Mount Laurel United Methodist Church, was a World War II Army
veteran
and was a charter member of the Mount Laurel Ruritan Club. He was a
retired farmer who enjoyed selling his homegrown vegetables at the
South Boston Farmers Market.
Mr. Roller is survived by his wife of the home, a daughter Tricia
Barker and husband, Jimmy of Waverly and one son, Wayne Roller and
wife
Debbie of South Boston, a brother, Aubrey Roller, Sr. of Mount
Laurel
and five grandchildren, Chris Barker and wife Dana of
Fredericksburg,
David Barker of Orlando, FL, Daniel Roller of Charleston, SC, Beth
Roller of Richmond and Justin Roller of Chicago, IL. He was preceded
in
death by a son, Jerry Roller.
A funeral service for Mr. Roller will be conducted Tuesday, July 8
at
11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Pizzeck
officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Laurel United Methodist
Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral
Home
Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at his home, 7231
Mount Laurel Road, Mount Laurel. The family requests that those

Samuel Palmer
Mr. Samuel Palmer, Jr., 82, of 3600 Old Halifax Road, Halifax died
Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at McGuire's Veterans Administration Hospital,
Richmond. He was born in Halifax County on February 8, 1926, a son
of
the late Mr. Samuel Palmer, Sr. and Mrs. Augusta Tucker Palmer. He
was
first married to the late Mrs. Clara Carrington Palmer and later
married Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Palmer. He was a former employee of
Daystrom Furniture, Inc., was a safety patrolman at the former C.H.
Friend Elementary School and at South Boston Elementary School, was
WWII Army veteran and a deacon at Mount Olive Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs.
Cheryl
Coleman of Richmond, Mrs. Brenda Brodnax and Mrs. Rhonda Norwood,
both
of South Boston; one brother, Rev. Sandy Palmer of South Boston;
four
grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sons-in-law, three
sisters-in-law, one granddaughter-in-law, other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5 at Mount Olive Baptist
Church with Rev. Marvin Bowman officiating. Burial followed in Oak
Ridge Cemetery with military rites.
Joseph Alexander Tucker
Mr. Joseph Alexander Tucker of South Boston died Friday, July 4,
2008
at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 81. Born in Halifax
County
on October 9, 1926, he was the son of the late Mr. Amous Tucker and
Mrs. Maria Palmer Tucker. He was married to the late Mrs. Edith
Stewart
Tucker and was a member of the Five Fork Baptist Church. He was a
United States World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Tucker is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Linda Kirby Wilson of
Baltimore, MD, a grandson, Mr. Malik Wilson of Baltimore, MD, two
sisters, Mrs. Lula Ferrell and Mrs. Helena Williams, both of South
Boston, three brothers, Mr. Thomas Tucker and Mr. Junior Tucker,
both
of South Boston and Mr. James Tucker of Richmond, a son-in-law, Mr.
Charles Wilson, several nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends
including a devoted friend, William "Sonny" Cameron.
A funeral service for Mr. Tucker was conducted on Sunday, July 6 at
2:30 p.m. at the Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Moses Dixon,
Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Five Fork Baptist Church
cemetery.
