Obituaries
Mr. Ronnie Ray Martin
Mr. Ronnie Ray Martin, 52, of Scottsburg entered into
eternal rest on
June 29, 2007. A Lewis Tree Service employee, he attended New Covenant
Worship Center in South Boston. He is survived by his wife, Linda Martin,
daughters, Sheila Martin and Brian Lacks of Clover, Malissa Seamster
and Michael of Chase City, Sherry Wilmouth and Doug of Drakes
Branch, his mother, Katherine Martin of Scottsburg, sisters, Texie
Snead of Halifax, Katherine "Boots" Hazelwood of Mt. Laurel,
brothers, Eugene Martin and Edwin Martin of Scottsburg, six
grandchildren, Tyler (Bullet), Trevor (Suga-foot), Dylan (Scooter),
Hayley (Frog), Jessica (Buttons), Selena (Bubbles). He
was preceded in death by his father, Ollie E. Martin, Sr. and a
brother, Marion Martin. A funeral service will be held today, Monday, July
2 at 2 p.m. at Wood Funeral Chapel with Pastor Grant Dyer and Rev.
Frank Baldwin conducting the service. Interment followed in Clover

Mr. Enoch Argyle Haley
Mr. Enoch Argyle Haley, 94, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007. He was born
in Toano, VA on September 14, 1912, a graduate of The College of
William and Mary and was a veteran of the United States Army during
World War II in Europe. He resided in South Boston for over 50 years,
serving on the first Downtown Revitalization Committee, was a member of
Trinity Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry, and was a junior and
senior warden. He is survived by a son, Enoch A. Haley, Jr. and wife Kathy
of Hampton; daughter, Drucilla H. York and husband Maurice of
Greenville, NC;
granddaughters Jessica S. Haley, Rachael C. Haley and Nancy H. York; a
sister, Elizabeth H. Glass and husband Forrest of Richmond. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Gatewood Jones and his parents,
Littleberry James Haley and Hannah Elizabeth Wilkinson Haley.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church, Greenville, NC with an additional service at 4:00
p.m. Saturday at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church, Toano, with burial to
follow.
Mr. John Lawrence Stiltner
Mr. John Lawrence Stiltner, Jr., 69, of Red House died June 28, 2007 at
Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born September 6, 1937 in Buchanan,
a son of the late John L. Stiltner, Sr. and Virginia Florence Fields
Stiltner and was married to the late Lora Edith Bentley Stiltner. He
was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church.
He is survived by four daughters, Wanda Dunaway, Oma Bowman, Jessica
Hummel and Ruby Lott, all of Brookneal; seven grandchildren, James
Smith, Amanda and Rebecca Bowman, Lora and John Smith, Jimmy Eppley and
six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Edward, Harold, Ralph and Sam
Stiltner; three sisters, Mary, Lula Belle and Helen. He was preceded
in death by one daughter, Linda Faye Stiltner. Graveside services will be
held today at 2:00 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Shelby
Royale officiating.
Mrs. Lillie Ethel Stanfield Coleman
Mrs. Lillie Ethel Stanfield Coleman, 73, of 5134 Bill Tuck Highway,
South Boston died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at her home. She was born in
Halifax County on April 27, 1934, a daughter of the late Mr. Albert
Nick Stanfield and Mrs. Bertha McCargo Stanfield. She was married to
the late Mr. Joseph Scott Coleman and was a member of Jeters Chapel
Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Karen Carden of
South Boston; six sisters, Mrs. Margie Carrington of Newport News,
Mrs. Grace Trimble, Mrs. Marie Walton, Mrs. Atha Ridges, all of
Bronx, NY, Mrs. Bertha
Rogers and Ms. Lucille Stanfield, both of South Boston; four brothers,
Mr. Jerome Stanfield of Hampton, Mr. Albert Stanfield, Mr. Leon
Stanfield, Mr. Philmore Lester, all of South Boston; one grandson, Mr.
Damon Chandler; six great-grandchildren, a Godson, Rev. Frankie
Coleman; step-mother, Mrs. Gracie Stanfield; one son-in-law, Mr.
Garfield Carden; four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, five aunts,
once uncle, a devoted friend Mrs. Bettie Coleman, other relatives and
friends. Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Jeters
Chapel
Baptist Church with Rev. Antori Brown officiating. Burial will follow
in the church cemetery.
