OBITUARIES Washington Theodore "Ted" Coleman
Mr. Washington Theodore "Ted" Coleman, 81, of 1123 Coleman Drive,
Alton
died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at South Boston Manor. He was born in
Halifax County on May 15, 1927, a son of the late Mr. Davis Coleman
and
Mrs. Cora Lee Barksdale Coleman. He was a member of New Bethel
Baptist
Church and was a Korean War Army Veteran.
He is survived by Ms. Sheron Jamel of Peekskill, NY and Ms. Denise
Woodall of Alton; three grandchildren, Kiana, Ariel and Mariah; one
sister, Mrs. Mildred Clark of Minneapolis, MN; one brother, Mr.
William
Coleman of Alton; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in
death by sisters Izetta Sadler, Louise Miles, Virginia Hughes,
Maxine
Carr and Juanita Cambell and his brothers, Branch and Wardell
Coleman.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20 at noon with services
at
New Bethel Baptist Church. The family will meet one hour prior to
service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the American
Cancer Society.
George Wyatt McCargo
Mr. George Wyatt McCargo, 88, of 3109 Mt. Laurel Road, Clover died
Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in
Manhattan, NY on March 22, 1920, a son of the late Mr. George
McCargo
and Mrs. Sallie Garrett McCargo. He was married to Mrs. Margaret
McCargo, was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and was a United
States Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Mr. Wyatt George
McCargo of Baltimore, MD; two daughters, Ms. Melba Mitchell of
Richmond
and Ms. Leigh McCargo of Baltimore, MD; 12 grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, other relatives
and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ms.
Cassandra
McCargo and one sister, Mrs. Alberta Snead.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20 at 3:00 p.m. at St.
Matthew Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Whitfield Scott officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites.
Violet McGregor Pleasant
Mrs. Violet McGregor Pleasant, 71, of South Boston died Tuesday,
June
17, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Pittsylvania
County on September 5, 1936, a daughter of the late Allie Wilson
McGregor and Lelia Tanksley McGregor.
She is survived by five children, Allie "Pete" Ricketts and wife
JoAnne
of Chatham, Janet Ricketts Hodnett and husband James of Blairs,
Janice
Ricketts Cahill and husband Tom of Danville, Joy Ricketts Compton
and
husband William of Dry Fork, Joan Ricketts Knapp and husband Ron of
Atlanta, GA; four sisters, Betty Womack of Halifax, Ruth Lloyd of
Winston-Salem, NC, Sandra Bibee of Bassett, Eunice King of Lynch
Station; two brothers, Wallace McGregor and Harry McGregor, both of
South Boston; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one sister, Lois Owen.
Graveside services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church at Peytonsburg with Pastor Bruce Miller
officiating.

Thomas Ratliff Watlington
Mr. Thomas Ratliff Watlington, 81, of 1349 Jeffress Street, South
Boston died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at his home. He was born in
South
Boston on June 6, 1927, a son of the late Junius Adelbert Watlington,
Jr. and Carrie Ratliff Watlington and was married to Linda Farthing
Watlington. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church,
where he was a member of the choir and was a retired Post Master in
South Boston.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ann
Watlington Snead and fiancé Jeff Wilmouth of South Boston and Gayle
Watlington Myers and husband Greg of Timberlake, NC; two
grandchildren,
Jennifer Ann Sparks and Cynthia Marie Snead and four
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jean
Watlington Webb and three brothers, J.A. Watlington, Jr., Bernard E.
Watlington and Donald W. Watlington.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 20 at 1:00 p.m. at
Grace
Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ed Riggs and Rev. Randy Holmes
officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7:00-8:30
p.m. at Powell Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Main

Macey Wilkerson Terry
Mrs. Macey Wilkerson Terry of 1216 Brooklyn Road, Sutherlin, died
Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Danville Regional Medical Center. She
was
born in Halifax County on December 1, 1921 and was 86 at the time of
her death. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Wilkerson and
Lucy
Wilkerson and was married to the late Clifton Edward Terry. She was
a
member of Arbor Baptist Church.
Mrs. Terry is survived by three daughters, Betty Perkins of Keeling,
Frances T. Owen and husband, John of South Boston and Pauline T.
Hawker
and husband Sammy of Keeling, eight grandchildren and thirteen
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Clifton
Terry, two brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service for Mrs. Terry will be conducted on Saturday, June
21
at 2 p.m. at Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Wright
officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family
will
receive friends at the home of her daughter, Frances Owen, 1223
River
