Obituaries
Mr. Carlos Esteban Valdes
Mr. Carlos Esteban Valdes, 77, of 2084 L.P. Bailey Highway, Halifax
died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at his home. He was born in Havana, Cuba
on August 26, 1929, a son of the late Carlos Antonio Valdes and Josefa
Alvarez Valdes and was married to Joan Elizabeth Godfrey Valdes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Susan
Valdes and Sandy Heath, both of Halifax, Joanna Valdes and husband
Billy of Bayonne, NJ; two sons, Carlos Valdes and wife Debbie of
Nathalie, Vincent Valdes of Wenonah, NJ; one sister, Ana Vives of
Portland, ME; six grandchildren, January Heath, Nicole Pelliccia,
Michael Kennedy, Justin, Krystal and Allison Valdes.
Burial will be private.
Antha Scott Hall
Mrs.Antha Scott Hall, 97 of South Boston and
formerly of Brookneal, died Saturday, June 9, at the Woodview Nursing
Home. A graveside service for Mrs. Antha Scott Hall will be held Tuesday
at 11 a.m. at Wickliffe Cemetery with the Rev. Troy Mays officiating. She
was born in Halifax County on February 7, 1910, the daughter of the late
Floyd T. Scott and Berta Stevens Scott and was married to the late John
William Hall. Mrs. Hall was a member of Brookneal Baptist Church. She is
survived by three daughters, Barbara Hare and husband George of Forest,
Gay Wilkinson of South Boston, and Sandra Guthrie and husband Russ of
Gladys, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hall was
preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Marjie and Bob Eastwood; a
grandson, Robert Eastwood; a brother, Thomas J. Scott and a sister, Marion
Scott.
Mrs. Elsie Anthony Wallace
Mrs. Elsie Anthony Wallace, 73, of 914 Berry Hill Road, South Boston
died Friday, June 8, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in
Charlotte County on March 24, 1934, she was a retired weaver at J. P.
Stevens and was a member of the South Boston Church of God. She was a
member of the Southern Belles bowling league and a former part-time
employee of Boston Commons.
Mrs. Wallace is survived by two sons, Jeff Wallace and wife, Judy and
Alan Wallace and wife, Pam, all of South Boston, two sisters, Frances
Reynolds of Yanceyville, NC and Mary Mae Brandon of Blanch, NC and four
grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeremy, Sydney and William Wallace and her
mother-in-law, Inez Wallace. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Willie Jeff Wallace, her parents, Mary Elizabeth Wallace Anthony and
Robert Anthony, two brothers, Thomas and Gene Anthony and a sister,
Myrtle Haley.
A funeral service for Mrs. Wallace was conducted on Sunday, June 10,
2007 at 3 p.m. at the South Boston Church of God at 3 p.m. with the
Rev. Dr. Bruce Hagy officiating. Burial followed in Halifax Memorial

Mr. Carl Junior Clay
Mr. Carl Junior Clay, 65, of 2041 Philpott Road, South Boston died
Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in
Person County, NC October 9, 1941,a son of the late Noel Duncan Clay
and Virginia Bass Clay and was married to the late Gennie Wilkins Clay.
He is survived by one son, Stevie Clay of Clarksville; four sisters,
Barbara Ann Whitt and husband Doug of Roxboro, NC, Virginia Christine
Comer of Vernon Hill, Joan DuQue of South Boston and Rose Curry of
Halifax; one brother, Larry Clay of Vernon Hill. He was preceded in
death by one son, Carl Jason Clay, two sisters Carrie Estelle Clay and
Frances Clay and four brothers, Overton, Shirley, Roger and Noel Clay.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 9 at Fork Baptist Church
Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Whitlow officiating.
