Obituaries
Ms. Mattie Lee Jennings
Ms. Mattie Lee Jennings, 73, of 2219 Swain Road, Halifax died Monday, May
21, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on
March 19, 1934, a daughter of the late Mrs. Channie Jennings Bagwell and
was a member of New Vernon Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Mr. Gene Jennings of Halifax; one sister, Mrs.
Frances Louise Miller of South Boston; three grandchildren, Mr. Robert
Edmonds, Mr. Albert Hightower and Mr. Barry Hightower; other relatives and
friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Robert L. Jennings and
one sister, Mrs. Mary Hightower.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. at New Vernon
Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Roger Ford officiating. Burial will follow in
the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, 2219
Swain Road, Halifax.
Sallie E. Dodd
Sallie E. Dodd, 95, of Richmond died Sunday, May 20, 2007. She was the
daughter of the late Arthur D. and Myrtle Weatherford Dodd.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Louise F. Dodd and a number of
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sisters Elizabeth Pike
and Willie Dodd and brothers A.D., Jarnes and Robert Dodd.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home with Rev.
Phillip Showers officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs. Betty Ann Daniel Lacks
Mrs. Betty Ann Daniel Lacks, 62, of 5057 Black Walnut Road, Randolph died
Monday, May 21, 2007 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on
February 16, 1945, a daughter of the late Virginia Cole Daniel and Harry
Wilson Daniel and was married to James Clayton Lacks. She was a member of
Clover United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Tammy L. White
of Scottsburg, Kim L. Dyer of Scottsburg and Vickie L. Toombs and husband
Michael of Vernon Hill; sisters, Doris Robinson of Chesterfield, Frances
Crews of South Boston, Linda Joyner of Capron; grandchildren, Randy Lacks,
Justin Hailey, Joshua Hailey, J.J. Lacks, Samantha Toombs and
great-grandchild, Krysten Hailey. She was preceded in death by one sister,
Dixie Lowery.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Clover United Methodist Church
with Rev. Bonnie Pizzeck and Rev. Jimmy Lacks officiating. Burial followed
in the Lacks Family Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of
Virginia, 22 Clark Street, Farmville, VA 23901.
Mrs. Carolyn Sanford Davis
Mrs. Carolyn Sanford Davis, 61, of South Boston died Saturday, May 19,
2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born May 17, 1946, a daughter
of the late Governor Junious and Virginia Jennings Sanford and was married
to the late Donald Lee Davis. She was a member of Sunflower Baptist
Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Priscilla Sanford and Virginia Acree,
both of South Boston; one son, Donald Lee Davis, Jr. of South Boston; two
grandchildren; one brother, Robert Loranzo Sanford of Danville; two
great-grandchildren, three aunts, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at Sunflower Baptist
Church with Rev. Robert Tucker, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the
church cemetery.
Mr. John Logan Coleman,
Mr. John Logan Coleman, Jr., 77, of John Logan Trail, Clover died May 20,
2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on April
12, 1930, a son of the late Mr. John Logan Coleman, Sr. and Mrs. Effie C.
Coleman. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and employed for 22 years
with New York City Fire Department and was also a Korean War Army Veteran.
He is survived by a daughter, Ms. Bevely M. Coleman of Burbank, CA; two
sisters, Mrs. Ariel Thompson and Mrs. Edna Clark, both of Clover; one
brother, Mr. Marcellus Coleman of Clover; one nephew, Mr. Les Thompson;
one grand nephew, Mr. Lance Thompson; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 23 at Crawford House Chapel,
Halifax with Rev. Dr. James Coleman, Jr. officiating.
Mr. Emanuel D. Yoder
Mr. Emanuel D. Yoder of 3090 Hunting Creek Road, Nathalie died Monday, May
21, 2007 at his home. He was the son of the late Daniel E. Yoder and Lydia
R. Yoder and was married to Mary W. Yoder and was a member of Old Order
Amish Church and was a carpenter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Daniel Yoder and
wife Edna of Dover, DE, Raymond Yoder and wife Cindy of Dover, DE, Fannie
Mae Coblentz and husband Daniel of Nathalie, Laura Miller and wife Gary of
Londonderry, OH, Vernon Yoder and wife Mary Anna of Delta, CO; 29
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two
brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held today at 9:00 a.m. at the home with Minister
Levi Beachy of Shipshewana, IN officiating. Burial will follow in the
Amish Cemetery, Nathalie.
Mr. Curtis Ray Waller
Mr. Curtis Ray Waller, 59, of 722 Lincoln Drive, South Boston died
Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in
Halifax County on June 3, 1947, a son of the late Mr. Tom Faulkner and Ms.
Christine Waller.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Priscilla Simmons of Atlantic City,
NY; one son, Mr. Curtis Brooks of South Boston; four sisters, Mrs. Linda
Gilyard of Chesterfield, Ms. Irene Waller, Ms. Fannie Faulkner, Ms. Helen
Waller, all of South Boston; two grandchildren, other relatives and
friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Theodore Waller and
Mr. El T. Waller.
Funeral services will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist
Church with Rev. Robert Winbish officiating. Burial will follow in Oak
Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Leroy Kent Andrews
Mr. Leroy Kent Andrews, 68, of 14164 Mountain Road, Vernon Hill died May
23, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on
May 18, 1939, sa on of the late Miller R. Andrews and Thelma Whitlow
Andrews.
He is survived by two sisters, Ruth Rutherford of Vernon Hill and Mary
Andrews of South Boston; a special friend, Nancy Raynor of Vernon Hill;
other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter,
Sharon Andrews, two sisters and one brother.
Graveside services will be held Friday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount
Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating.
Mr. William Antwon Parks
Mr. William Antwon Parks, 25, of Union Grove Road, South Boston died May
19, 2007. He was born in Halifax County on April 15, 1982, a son of Mr.
Lonnie Anthony Parks and Mrs. Cheryl Womack Palmer. He was a member of New
Vernon Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs.
Tanya Cutler of Portsmouth and Ms. Stephanie Womack of Norfolk; his
maternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Womack of South Boston; his paternal
grandmother, Mrs. Amy H. Parks of New York; one brother-in-law, Mr.
Theodore Cutler; three nieces, one nephew, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m. at New Vernon
Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Roger J. Ford officiating. Burial will follow
in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1224 Union
Grove Road, South Boston.
