Obituaries

Mrs. Joy Brogden Butler, 52, of 1187 Sandy Beach Road, South Boston
died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born
in Halifax County on February 7, 1955, a daughter of Ophelia W. Brogden
and the late Harold Brogden and was married to Raymond D. Butler. She
was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and Women of Hope and was an
employee of Dollar General.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by one daughter,
Karen L. Butler-Dixon and husband Michael of South Boston; two sons,
Ray Allen Butler of US Army, Iraq and Nicholas B. Butler of South
Boston; one brother, Ricky Brogden and wife Sharon of South Boston;
mother-in-law, Virginia Francis Butler of Halifax; nieces and nephews,
Shane, Elizabeth and Sarah Brogden.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Dan River Baptist
Church with Rev. Doug Gibson and Rev. John Eure officiating. Burial
will follow in the Virgilina Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to
the Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O. Box 875, South Boston, VA
24592.
 
 
Mrs. Sandra Johnson Rumbaugh, 63, of 4211 Union Church Road, South
Boston died Thursday, May 3, 2007 at The Woodview. She was born in
Halifax County on June 17, 1943, a daughter of the late Elijah Randolph
(Pete) Johnson and Elizabeth Osborne Johnson. She was a member of
Union United Methodist Church and a retired Registered Nurse with
Halifax Regional Hospital.
She is survived by one son, Randy Allen Rumbaugh and wife Jeanne of
Halifax; one daughter, Elizabeth Rumbaugh Bennett and husband George of
Suffolk; two grandchildren, Elijah Allen Bennett and Abigail Grace
Rumbaugh and her mother, Elizabeth Osborne Johnson of South Boston.
A funeral service will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral
Home with Rev. Maxine Crenshaw officiating. Burial will follow in
Union United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to
the American Diabetes Association, 530 E. Main Street, Suite 200,
Richmond, VA 23219 or the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place
Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
