OBITUARIES

 

 
 William Henry Elliott
Mr. William Henry Elliott, 52, of 3172 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston
died Sunday, April 27, 2008.  He was born in Halifax County on March
12, 1956, was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a foreman with
Climate Control, Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Debra W. Elliott of South Boston; sons,
William Justin Elliott and Jared Wayne Elliott, both of South Boston;
daughter, Jenna Nicole Elliott of South Boston; step-son, Brian Epps
and wife Christi of South Boston; father, John K. Elliott of Halifax;
mother, Gladys Phillips Elliott of South Boston; sisters, Gladys Murray
of Roxboro, NC and Patsy Brewer and Donna Talley, both of Oxford, NC;
and brothers, Charles Danny Elliott of Scottsburg and John Randolph
Elliott of South Boston.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30 at Grace Baptist Church
with Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.  Burial followed in the church
cemetery.

 

 Edna Arneida Ladd Elliott
Mrs. Edna Arneida Ladd Elliott, 79, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at VCU
Health Systems, Richmond.  She was born in Halifax County, a daughter
of the late Janie Fletcher and Lonnie Carl Ladd and was married to Carl
Wesley Elliott, Jr.  She was the retired owner of Arneida's Beauty
Shop, a volunteer at Halifax Regional Hospital and a member of North
Fork Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Shelby E.
Newton and husband Charles of Chase City, Carl Wesley Elliott, III of
Virgilina, Linda Cheryl E. Oliver and husband Larry of Virgilina, and
Wendell Wayne Elliott of Virgilina; her grandchildren, Captain Robert
Daniel Elliott and wife Socheat, Dr. Kelly Ann Newton Toler and husband
Michael and Brian Elliott Newton; great-granddaughter, Isabella
Danielle Elliott; sister, Mary Frances L. Bowen Willis and husband John
of Hopewell;  brothers,  Floyd Allen Ladd and wife Nancy of Richmond
and Lynwood Carl Ladd and wife Helen of South Boston.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at North Fork Baptist
Church with Rev. Ben Gault officiating.  Burial will follow in the
Virgilina Cemetery.
 
  Howell Sinclair Coleman
Mr. Howell Sinclair Coleman died Friday, April 25, 2008.  He was born
in Clover on April 20, 1917, a son of the late Clem Booker and Eliza
Harriett Coleman and was married to the late Fannye Stallings Coleman.
He attended schools in Halifax County, retired as an ABC Store manager,
was a member of Third Street Bethel A.M.E. Church, Richmond and was a
United States Army Veteran.
He is survived by nieces, Vivian McCown Thurston (Charles), Florence
McCown Easley (William), Donna Coleman Dessin (Marcelo); nephews,
Lowell M. McCown (Jacqueline), Nathaniel W. Coleman, Sinclair B.
Coleman, Wesley A. Coleman (Barbara) and Carlos W. Coleman; seven
great-nephews, six great-nieces, great-great-nieces and nephews, other
relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by sisters Veola,
Sallie and Henrietta and brothers Clem and Wyatt.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at W.S. Watkins & Son
Funeral Home, Richmond.
