OBITUARIES Amos Dixon Coleman
Mr. Amos Dixon Coleman, 45, of 6054 L.P. Bailey Highway, Halifax
died Monday, April 14, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was
born in Halifax County on April 17, 1962, a son of Mrs. Mary Ellen
Coleman and
the late Mr. Amos Coleman. He was a member of First Baptist Church,
Meadville and was a former employee of Presto Products. In addition
to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Ms. Ashley Coleman
and Ms. Katrina Mabins, both of Halifax; three sons, Mr. Tyrone
Mabins of Richmond, Mr. Brandon Coleman and Mr. Jerome Coleman, both
of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Mr. Gordon Coleman of Halifax; one
sister, Mrs. Yvonne Carter of Halifax; one brother-in-law, Mr.
George Carter; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Theresa Coleman; a devoted
friend, Ms. Darlene Mabins; a devoted cousin, Mr. Barkley Chambers;
one aunt, one uncle, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. at
First Baptist Church, Meadville with Rev. Robert S. Wimbish
officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family
will receive friends at his home.
Eunice "Polly" Davis Morris
Eunice "Polly" Davis Morris, 74, of 5205 Red Bank Road, Virgilina
died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at her home. She was born in
Pittsylvania County on September 22, 1933, a daughter of the late
Benjamin L. Davis and Cora Lee Richardson Davis and was married to
Louis Carlson Morris. She was a member of Union Christian Church and
retired from the Halifax County School System. In addition to her
husband, she is survived by one son, Bruce Carlson Morris and wife
Wendy of Virgilina; grandchildren, Christopher Wayne "C.W." Morris,
Starr Leeann Morris, Hayley Rose Morris, Karly Lizabeth Morris, Dale
Walter Morris; brothers, Joseph Davis of Pelham, NC and John Davis
of Hampton; sisters, Hattie Davis Landrum and Nannie Davis Reynolds,
both of Danville, and Hilda Davis Young of Kernersville, NC. She was
preceded in death by a son, Christopher Louis Morris, brothers
William Davis and Robert Davis and sisters Eva Davis Hunt and Mary
Frances Davis. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16 at
Union Christian Church with Rev. Jimmy Pulliam officiating. Burial
followed in
Virgilina Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Halifax Regional

Paul Franklin Humphries
Mr. Paul Franklin Humphries, 86, of 406 Oak Lane, South Boston died
Sunday, April 13, 2008 at South Boston Manor. He was born in
Halifax County on May 24, 1921, a son of the late T.J. Humphries and
Clare Mae
Brooks Humphries and was married to Mrs. Grace Guthrie
Humphries. He was a member of Denbigh Presbyterian Church, Newport
News, and was a retired labor investigator with the Commonwealth of
Virginia and an Army World War II veteran. In addition to his wife,
he is survived by one sister, Janice H. Jones of Oxford, NC and a
number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were
private. Memorials may be directed to Halifax County Humane

Albert Sunday Holbein
Albert Sunday Holbein, Sr., 94, died Monday, April 7, 2008 at
Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was the son of the late Sadie
Huntley and Fred Holbein. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane;
daughters, Sallie Holbein of
Halifax, Evelyn Aleshire (David) Locklin of Columbus, OH; and son,
Albert "Bud" (Charlene) Holbein, Jr.; grandchildren, Cynthia (Tom
Katsoulis) Nelson-Katsoulis, Leroy Legg, Jr., Evelyn Legg, Henry
(Cristy) Nelson, Jr., Nancy (Steve Sather) Locklin, Barbara Locklin,
Kathy (Frank Morgan) Aleshire, Joe Aleshire, Hans (Tiffany) Holbein,
Jeffrey Holbein, Ramona (Jared Donnellon) Curley; 22
great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, granddaughters Mary
Michael and Heidi Blizzard. Funeral services were held Saturday,
April 12 at O.R. Woodyard Funeral Home with Rev. David Griebner
officiating. Burial followed in Green Lawn Cemetery.
Shirley Martin Paxton
Mrs. Shirley Martin Paxton of 1114 Cole Lane, Scottsburg, died
Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at her home. Born July 4, 1946 in Halifax
County, she was 61 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of
the late James Wesley "Dink" Martin and Arie Mae Snead Martin and
was married to William Lewis Paxton, Sr. She was a member of the
Clover Church of God of Prophecy and was retired from Burlington
Industries. Mrs. Paxton is survived by her husband of the home, a
son, William Lewis Paxton, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Scottsburg, one
grandson, Andrew Lewis Paxton of Scottsburg, three sisters, Lilly
Martin and husband Eugene of Scottsburg, Eva Hazelwood and husband,
James
"Bumpsie" of Scottsburg, Nora Pixley and husband Chuck of Roxboro,
NC, four brothers, James Martin, Jr. and wife Carolyn, Kyle Martin
and friend Dorothy Davis, Thomas "Tom" Martin and wife Amy, all of
Scottsburg and Wyatt "Bennie" Martin and wife Donna of Clover. She
was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Charlotte Ann
Paxton. A funeral service for Mrs. Paxton will be conducted on
Sunday, April 20 at 3 p.m. at the Clover Church of God of Prophecy
with the Rev. Stephen Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the
Clover cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral
Home on Saturday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at her
