OBITUARIES Eunice Polly Davis Morris
Mrs. Eunice Polly Davis Morris of 5205 Red Bank Road, Virgilina died
Sunday, April 13, 2008 at her home Born on September 22, 1933 in
Pittsylvania County, she was 74 at the time of her death. She was a
member of Union Christian Church where she served on many committees
and was retired from the Halifax County school system.
Mrs. Morris is survived by her husband, Louis Carlson Morris of the
home and a son, Bruce Carlson Morris and wife, Wendy of Virgilina,
five grandchildren, Starr Leeann Morris, Christopher Wayne "C. W."
Morris, Hayley Rose Morris, Karly Lizabeth Morris and Dale Walter
Morris, two brothers, Joseph Davis of Pelham, NC, and John Davis of
Hampton, three sisters, Hattie Davis Landrum and Nannie Davis
Reynolds, both of Danville and Hilda Davis Young of Kernersville.
She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Louis Morris, her
parents, Benjamin L. Davis and Cora Lee Richardson Davis, two
brothers, William and Robert Davis and two sisters, Eva Davis Hunt
and Mary Frances Davis. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this
time and will be announced later by Brooks Funeral Home
.
William Leon Morton
Mr. William Leon Morton, 58, of Washington, DC, formerly of Halifax
County, died Saturday, April 5, 2008. He was born on March 10,
1950, a son of Mr. William B. Morton and the late Mrs. Mattie L.
Collins Morton
and was a United States Air Force Veteran. In addition to his
father, he is survived by one son, Mr. William Leon
Morton, II of Nathalie; three brothers, Mr. Sam Morton of Hampton,
Mr. Clement Morton and Mr. Clinton Morton, both of Baltimore, MD;
two sisters, Ms. Pamela Morton and Mrs. Cheryl Johns, both of
Baltimore,
MD; three granddaughters, Ms. Kristina Morton, Ms. Brooklyn Morton,
Ms. Ayanna Morton; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Crystal Boyd-Morton;
two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elaine Morton and Mrs. Melissa Morton; one
brother-in-law, Mr. Tyrone Johns, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 12 at Crawford House
Chapel with burial following in Bethel Grove Baptist Church with
Military Rites by American Legion Post 99.
Eugene Vernon Ballou
Mr. Eugene Vernon Ballou, 84, of 1235 Sinai Road, South Boston died
Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at his home. He was born in Halifax County
on December 10, 1923, a son of the late Mr. Edward Ballou and Mrs.
Melissa
Ballou and was married to the late Mrs. Gladys Berry Ballou. He is
survived by one brother, Mr. Herbert Ballou, Sr. of Halifax;
numerous nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Brenda Ballou, Mrs.
Thelma Wood Dean and Mrs. Pamela Lacks, other relatives and
friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Lola C. Wood
and one brother, Mr. Prunious Ballou. Funeral services were held
Sunday, April 13 at Crawford House Chapel
with Rev. Dr. William Carr officiating. Burial followed in Banister
Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion
Post 99.
Joe Monroe Davis
Mr. Joe Monroe Davis, 76, of 10037 Mountain Road, Vernon Hill died
Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at his home. He was born in Halifax County
on September 14, 1931, a son of the late Shob Albert Davis and Sue
Thaxton
Davis and was married to the late Norma Eubank Davis. He was a
member of First Baptist Church, Maysville, NC and was a member of
Woodmen of the World Camp 106. He is survived by sons, Walter Monroe
Davis and wife Terri of Chesterfield, Gregory J. Davis and wife
Sandra of Alton, Forrest Craig Davis and wife Cindy of Vernon Hill;
daughters, Rhonda Jill Davis and Becky Sue Arthur, both of South
Boston; brother, Robert L. Davis and
wife Shirley of Madison Heights, MI; 10 grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister,
Margaret D. Adkins. Graveside services were held Sunday, April 13 at
Oak Ridge Cemetery
with Pastor Brad Adkins officiating.
John Allen Lee
Mr. John Allen Lee of 1904 Jeffress Boulevard, South Boston died
April 10, 2009 at The Woodview Nursing Home at the age of 85. Born
in Halifax County on November 11, 1921, he was the son of the late
Mr. Matthew Lee and Mrs. Alberta Hayes Lee. He was married to Mrs.
Mary Hunt Lee and was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He
was a retired employee of Elliott Electric Company. Mr. Lee is
survived by his wife of the home, two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Jones
of Rochester, NY and Ms. Gladys Frierson of South Boston, a son, Mr.
James Benjamin Lee, Sr. of Rochester, NY, 11 grandchildren, 15 great
grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Mamie Lee Link of South Boston, a
son--in-law, Mr. Jimmy Jones, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Janie Lee and
a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the
devoted Carolyn Tuck, John and Teresa Slabach and family. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew
Douglas Lee, a grandson, James B. Lee, Jr., two sisters, Jessie
Morgan and Louise Meadows and a brother, Andrew J. Lee. A funeral
service for Mr. Lee will be conducted on Monday, April 14 at 11 a.m.
at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. James M. Crowder
officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge cemetery. The
family will receive friends at the home, 1904 Jeffress Blvd., South
Boston.
Allen Lee Moorefield
Mr. Allen Lee Moorefield, Sr., 86, of 100 Little John Court, South
Boston died Friday, April 11, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born in Halifax County on April 3, 1922, he was the retired
partner/owner of Vernon's TV & Appliance Company. Mr. Moorefield
served in the US Army during World War II in the battles of
Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe and was one
of the last surviving members of Company F. He was a member of
McCanless Memorial UMC, VFW Post 8243, the American Legion Post 8
and Woodmen of the World and was a former member of the Hyco Road
Ruritan Club. Mr. Moorefield is survived by his wife, Mae Daniel
Moorefield of the home, a son, Allen Lee Moorefield, Jr. of Auburn,
IN, a stepson, Kay Stark of Oxford, NC, a sister, Edith M. Talley of
Alton and grandchildren, Aaron, Rebekah and Seth and five step
grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry Moorefield and
Ruth Edwards Moorefield, five brothers, Charlie, Robert, Dan, Joe
and James Moorefield and a sister, Frances Riddle. A funeral service
for Mr. Moorefield will be conducted on Monday, April 14 at 11 a.m.
at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy
Reynolds, Rev. Phil Showers and Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family requests

Robert Wayne "Bozo" Perkins
Mr. Robert Wayne "Bozo" Perkins, Sr. of 5023 Bill Tuck Highway,
South Boston died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Halifax Regional
Hospital. Born in Halifax County on September 14, 1928, he was 79 at
the time of his death. He was a retired dry wall contractor and was
a veteran of the US Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean
War. He was a member of Mt. Cana United Methodist Church, the
American Legion Post 8, VFW Post 8243 and Woodmen of the World Camp
106. Mr. Perkins is survived by his wife, Margaret Seate Perkins of
the
home, two sons. Robert W. Perkins, Jr. of Virginia Beach and Jerry
L. Perkins of South Boston, two granddaughters, Kristie M. Perkins
of Alton and Amanda B. Perkins of South Boston and a great grandson,
Brett
Perkins of Alton. Also surviving are two brothers, Earl A. Perkins
of South Boston and Steve W. Perkins of Stuarts Draft, three
sisters, Thelma P. Daniel of South Boston, Mabel P. Perkins of
Halifax and Mary P. Redd of South
Boston and a sister-in-law, Betty Ann Seate Reda of Chester, NY and
a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Robert W. Perkins and Ethel Dunaway Perkins. A graveside
service for Mr. Perkins will be conducted today, Monday, April 14 at
3 p.m. at Mt. Cana UMC Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Holmes
officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials
be made to Mt. Cana UMC, c/o Frances Perkins, 1048 Sweet Gum Road,
